In the UK, around two million older people live in poverty. That’s two million too many. For our #TwoMillionTooMany report, Independent Age held a series of listening roadshows in areas across England and Scotland. This was to understand the current experiences and key issues affecting older people in financial hardship living across the UK. The older people we spoke to make up only a small cross-section of the two million older people living in poverty across the UK. But they made it clear that change is needed now. Our latest report - Two million too many: Poverty in later life and how to tackle it – details the experiences of older people across the UK. We heard from older people who have been forced into shocking situations because of poverty. From this report three things are clear: • Older people aren’t getting the financial support they’re eligible for. • For many, their income simply isn’t enough to maintain a healthy and dignified lifestyle. • Many of those in later life no longer feel like they are a meaningful part of our society. There are several actions that can be taken by the UK Government to address these issues that we lay out in the report. The #TwoMillionTooMany older people living in poverty across the country cannot afford to wait any longer. Read the report: https://lnkd.in/e2YhCpX9
