As Andrew Jenkins is well over halfway through his Big Trek for Headway - the brain injury association we’re dedicating this week’s #WellbeingWednesday to the theme of diet and nutrition. Andrew’s incredible journey reminds us of the importance of taking care of our bodies and minds. A healthy diet is especially crucial for those recovering from brain injury. According to Headway, here are some top tips: 🥗 Mediterranean Diet: Rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, olive oil, and fish, this diet supports cognitive function and heart health. 💦 Stay Hydrated: Drinking plenty of fluids is essential for maintaining energy levels and overall bodily functions. 🍞 Whole Grains: Foods like wholemeal bread, pasta, and brown rice release energy slowly, helping to maintain steady energy levels throughout the day. 🐟 Omega-3: Found in oily fish, seeds, and nuts, omega-3 fats are crucial for brain health and reducing inflammation. 🍓 Dark-Coloured Fruits and Vegetables: Spinach, kale, blueberries, and strawberries are packed with antioxidants and nutrients that support cognitive and physical health. While these tips are particularly beneficial for those affected by brain injury, they are also great advice for everyone looking to improve their overall health and well-being. You can learn more about the role of diet and nutrition in brain injury recovery by visiting Headway’s page here: https://lnkd.in/eyqQdrr2 And if you want to support Andrew’s fundraising efforts, follow this link to his Givestar page: https://lnkd.in/druiUbKy #Headway #BrainInjury #HealthyEating #TheBigTrek #Diet #Nutrition #Wellbeing

Andrew’s dedication to raising awareness and funds is truly inspiring. This brings to mind one of our past clients, Emily, who, in 2018, sustained a traumatic brain injury as a result of a hit and run driver while on her way to a festival. Emily’s story is a testament to resilience and determination. You can read more about her journey here: https://lnkd.in/eazUqnMZ Since sharing her story in 2020, Emily has achieved an incredible milestone by completing this year’s London Marathon.
