📣 The 2016 Amnesty International report exposed cobalt's connection to human rights abuses in the Democratic Republic of Congo which fuelled industry-wide action. Will their new ranking of the worst EV companies acting on human rights incidents do the same? I hope so, but honestly, I’m not surprised by the findings. Why? Because our own industry data shows similar gaps and current risk management processes aren't equipped for the complexity of battery supply chain risk. Here’s what I mean: 🔍 No company is conducting sufficient human rights due diligence on battery metal supply chains (highest score was 51/90 🤯) This isn’t surprising given the intricate nature of automotive and metal supply chains—but it’s critical. Risks often hide deep within the supply chain, which means suppliers must also have robust due diligence processes. 🌍 Narrow focus on one or two risks Five companies focus mainly on child labour in the DRC, overlooking a plethora of other human rights risks. While cobalt mining issues are well-documented, battery tech and its supply chain is constantly evolving, creating risks in new regions and materials like forced labour. Companies need more adaptive and comprehensive analysis across all battery materials and regions. 📊 Lack of transparency in mitigating risks Most companies provided little to no information on how they solve human rights risks in their supply chain. Again, not surprising. Tackling these risks requires targeted data and industry collaboration to address root causes. Are these findings surprising to you all?

💡 What a fun discussion with brilliant minds from AlbionVC, Project A, and fellow London supply chain startups and investors the other day 🌟 Daniel Sharp, James Kellett, Duran Cesur, Ciara Gumsheimer, Adam Chirkowski. I couldn't agree more with the overarching takeaway. Horizontal solutions are great for driving cross-sector comparability. However, customers often tell us these results can be too high-level and inaccurate. This isn’t a shortcoming of the tools, which have advanced transparency significantly, but rather a reflection of the challenges in complex supply chains. We're talking about millions of data points from tens of thousands of suppliers—often in regions where data is unreliable. The solution? Applied-AI trained on specific vertical industry datasets. For us, energy and mobility account for over 40% of global industry and play a crucial role in net-zero goals, getting their supply chains working efficiently is essential... and that's why we exist :) #AI #SupplyChain #NetZero #EnergyTransition #MobilityInnovation

Apparently, our work over the last month reached 76 million people… 😲 It was a hectic, yet amazing, month at Infyos. We hosted two webinars, were featured in articles by Cameron Murray at Energy-Storage.news and Liz Young at The Wall Street Journal among others, and spoke at industry-leading energy conferences. Shout out to Solar & Storage, Energy Storage Summit Warsaw, Fast Markets Battery Raw Materials Conference, and the EV Infrastructure Summit! Here’s a quick recap: 🚀 The future of clean energy and mobility is bright—but not without challenges. As this critical infrastructure grows rapidly, it’s becoming a cornerstone of the global economy. However, it faces complex geopolitical and ESG risks that threaten regulatory compliance, financial stability, and company reputations. 🔍 The data black box Many companies struggle to identify risks buried deep in their global and heavily Asia-dominated supply chains, hidden in a "data black box." This poses a real threat to the energy transition, with hidden regulatory, financial, and reputational costs. 💡 AI is changing the game Companies can now sift through millions of data points, mapping their supply chains and overlaying risk data to quickly pinpoint vulnerabilities. AI-driven tools like Infyos are helping businesses accelerate the transition by staying ahead of risks. If you missed our webinars or articles, feel free to reach out — I’d love to share more insights on how AI is transforming renewable energy risk management strategies 🌱⚡

🔑 The energy storage industry needs more than just ESG compliance—it needs proactive risk management across the supply chain. 🔑 Recently, Jeffrey Williamson and I had an insightful conversation with Cameron Murray at Energy-Storage.news about the critical risks the ESS industry faces, particularly around forced labour practices. 🛑 Key issues: Forced labour exposure: Our platform reveals that companies representing 75% of the battery market are exposed to upstream suppliers with potential links to unethical labour practices. Lack of visibility: Many businesses lack a clear view of their entire supply chain, leaving them vulnerable to regulatory, reputational, and financial risks. Regulatory pressure: With regulations like the EU Battery Regulation and Uyghur Forced Labour Act demanding stricter due diligence, companies are facing more pressure to get ahead of these risks and effectively manage them. 💡 What needs to change? Collaboration across the value chain is key. Companies must know who their suppliers are - beyond just direct relationships. Supply chain transparency isn't just about compliance, it’s about protecting your business and reputation. This is exactly the type of change Infyos is driving. We have the tools and insights to help companies gain full visibility and protect their businesses while building an ethical supply chain. In a recent The Wall Street Journal article, Liz Young highlighted how the pager attacks in Lebanon exposed some critical risks in technology supply chains. As our Head of Sustainability, Jeffrey Williamson, points out, these vulnerabilities can stem from limited oversight of supply chains, trade flows, and business relationships behind certain companies and products.
