Today, the European Commission achieved a milestone in the EU’s efforts to fight digital addiction. TikTok will permanently remove its screen-time reward feature in the EU, adhering to commitments under the Digital Services Act (DSA). This move underscores the EU's stance on protecting user mental health, particularly among younger audiences. If you want to know more about this topic, check out our previous blog on the EU’s concerns about digital addiction and the implications for the tech industry and regulatory environment. #DigitalAddiction #TechRegulation #EU #DSA #PolicyAnalysis #TechIndustry https://hubs.li/Q02K2LjX0

In March, the European Parliament officially passed the AI Act. In May, the Council of the EU did the same. In July, the Act was entered into the Official Journal of the EU. Today it enters into force — to be fully effective from 2 August 2026. It represents the world’s first major democratic law to regulate Artificial Intelligence. With the European Commission’s launch of the new AI Office in May, the first high-level meeting of the forthcoming AI Board taking place in June and the European Parliament’s pending plans to create a working group on implementation of the AI Act, the EU appears determined to remain at the cutting-edge of regulating this critical domain. 🔮 Can we bet on Breton? 🔮 Now that Ursula von der Leyen has been re-elected Commission President, the debate turns to who will work alongside her as part of the next College of Commissioners. In this piece, we examine the likelihood that Thierry Breton, the current Internal Market Commissioner, returns to sit in the EU’s top administration. During his five years as Commissioner, Breton has stood among the popular faces of the European Union: he has ramped up vaccine production, moved forward the concept of European defence, and has implemented regulation to make the digital space a fairer place. However, a few bad omens shroud the French’s sky, from divided support among the Member States for his dirigiste inclination to a weakened standing domestically, therefore begging the question of his renomination. As the EU faces significant internal and geopolitical challenges, that question’s denouement will influence the course the EU sets out for itself for the years to come. So, will Breton be back? The US Supreme Court’s monumental decision to overturn the ‘Chevron deference’ has shifted regulatory powers from federal agencies to Congress and federal courts, potentially altering regulations in various sectors such as technology and AI. The change will require federal agencies and Congress to modify how they issue regulations and legislation, respectively. In this blog by Sameer Surti, learn how this change could impact the future of US policy moving forward. #US #SupremeCourt #regulations #techpolicy Supreme Court decision to overturn Chevron Deference signals shift in regulatory abilities https://hubs.li/Q02HYfXK0

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has won a second five-year term. Her focus will be #competitiveness, #security and #sustainability — defined less by green ideology than a push for clean industrialisation. With the European Parliament’s committees now formed, work will start in the autumn: to vet commissioners-designate, and vie for political control of the new programme. See Nathan Shepura's latest Inline Policy blog post, looking at three committees in particular: Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE); Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO); and Transport and Tourism (TRAN). 👇 https://lnkd.in/gqU8FMCy
