Home from a fantastic few days away in Liverpool for the Apprenticeships & Training Conference. Leaving the conference feeling inspired from the excellent workshops and fantastic speakers. It was great to network and meet new people discussing all things apprenticeships, ending on an absolute high at the ATA Gala dinner👗 Buzzing to have bagged the teaching and learning illuminated book after an amazing workshop delivered by InnerDrive, delving into the science of learning. 🧠 #ATC25 #apprenticeships

I spoke on an AI panel today. As is always the way at these type of talks, most the other comments were about how AI now meant more focus should be on ‘creativity’ and ‘problem solving’. And no-one else really mentioned how it’s really hard to teach those things in isolation or how knowledge is necessary (but obviously not sufficient) to develop them. My main 3 points were: - We should be seriously worried about how students are using AI and its impact on their learning - Research takes time. AI is evolving fast. And during this ‘research lag’ the marketeers and grifters are trying to set the agenda - In the rush to embrace new tech and explore new forms of assessment, we should remember why we have the existing system before we even contemplate scrapping it (basically Chesterton’s Fence)
