    Equality in the Workplace: Show me the money? 💸 At Insight Change Ltd, we aim to tackle challenges head on. Something that we come up against time and time again is the ‘awkward’ conversation about budget. Generally, when in conversation with employee resource groups it becomes apparent that the ERGs are missing the R, in the form of finance 💰. Employees who run ERGs pour countless hours in to creating events and initiatives to support organisational equality but are they supported by their organisations? The lack of budgeting for the various areas of equality and diversity is highlighted every year during the well intentioned ‘awareness’ months (e.g. Black history month, Women’s history month, National Disability employment awareness month to name a few). You only need to flick through your LinkedIn feed to see posts from Black speakers, Women speakers, Neurodivergent speakers… who have been asked to talk at an international ‘insert relevant title’ day event for a large corporate however they have been offered minimal pay if any. Why isn’t their time and expertise valued? 💼 The Reality Check: Many companies proudly state their commitment to gender balance and diversity. But how often do we see this reflected in their budgets? Are diversity initiatives getting the financial backing they need to drive real progress? Or are they just buzzwords in an annual report? 🎯 Let's Get Honest: We want to hear from you. Illuminating Your Organisation’s Unique Challenges This is the last of our four tips, and while it’s the simplest to understand, it can be the most challenging to achieve and from experience where many organisations trip up. Every organisation is on its own journey toward equality and diversity, and the key to success lies in understanding your history, where you currently stand and what unique challenges you face. This information set the foundation for a company to set ambitious yet achievable goals. 📌 Practical Tips 1.     Get comfortable with discussing the uncomfortable 2.     Listen and understand employee feedback – understanding is not the same as agreeing. Insight Change Ltd can help you gather and interpret feedback constructively.   3.     Set goals that are grounded in your own context, not just based on external practices. 4.     Equality is a continuous journey not a ‘one and done’ project. Countless studies have shown and continue to show the pressure of the double-burden and tokenism to name a few.   Achieving a truly equal and diverse workplace requires everyone's commitment. 🌏 Here are three simple yet powerful ways you can contribute: Educate Yourself and Others: Start by understanding the importance of equality and diversity in the workplace. Share resources, attend workshops, and engage in conversations that broaden your perspective. Engage in Active Allyship (Partnerships): Active allyship means more than just supporting others from the sidelines. It involves forming partnerships across different groups, advocating for marginalized voices, and using your position to drive meaningful change. This can be as simple as championing someone from a different background or amplifying the ideas of underrepresented colleagues. Driven by the findings of my PhD thesis and other similar projects, Insight Change bridges the gap between academic investigation and practical action. Data is at the centre of our work. We provide bespoke solutions to support the growth of a diverse and gender balanced workforce, which is essential to compete in an era of financial and social turbulence. To ensure resources are targeted effectively, an organisation must ground it’s strategy and goals within its own context. Insight change will do this for you. Accessible knowledge enables change.
