It was an incredible privilege to meet Tony Wheeler, the legendary founder of Lonely Planet, yesterday! Back in 1973, Tony and his wife, Maureen, published their first guidebook called "Across Asia on the Cheap". It was the humble beginning of Lonely Planet, whose guides kickstarted the low-budget travel revolution, supporting backpackers in navigating far-flung destinations they might not have dared to explore previously. It was fantastic to hear Tony's fascinating travel stories and how Lonely Planet grew into what it is today. His journey is a reminder to us that a simple idea can transform an entire industry. At Inspirational Adventures, we're driven by the same pioneering spirit, with a mission to inspire travellers to embark on trips to unique, authentic and hidden destinations, and take on experiences outside of their comfort zone. Life-long adventurer Michael Harlow set himself a mighty challenge to celebrate his 57th birthday - completing 57 Adventures in 57 hours in the San Diego area. 🇺🇸 And, we're thrilled to say that Michael SMASHED his challenge! Every 2 weeks on Wednesday, we throw a party 🥳 Although it’s probably not what you’re thinking… It’s a "watch party”: For 30 minutes, we dive into user recordings at 4x speed and analyse heatmaps of our key pages via Hotjar | by Contentsquare. During one session, we spotted an unexpected behaviour on our enquiry form. It didn’t prevent submission, but it did add user friction — something we likely wouldn’t have caught through analytics or user interviews. By addressing it, we increased our form completion rate by 7.9%! 🏆 Watch parties have helped us bridge the gap between our quantitative data from Google Analytics and the qualitative insights we gain through user interviews. Next, we’re implementing event tagging, allowing us to filter the sessions we watch. For example, we could watch recordings only from users who viewed a trip for longer than 30 seconds but didn’t end up making an enquiry. We hope this will help us identify how to make our platform even better and deliver our Hosts more quality leads. ⚡ We built v1 of Community — our social network MVP — in under 14 hours of solo dev time. Here's how we build fast: 🔨 Low-code development: We use Bubble to build, deploy and iterate rapidly. We connected to Stripe to build our billing functionality with ZERO lines of code. 🚀 Continuous deployment: Using the Linear Method, we "launch and keep launching" to stay prioritised on essential features. We pushed to live 5 times last cycle. 🔄 Rapid feedback loops: We gather feedback right after launch, allowing us to stay aligned with user needs and build cumulatively. Our record for feedback to live is 4 hours! As an early-stage startup hunting for product-market fit, this approach is crucial in saving us time and development costs.
