Bringing History to Life

About us

'We are creative designers specialising in interpreting heritage projects, reimagining and telling untold stories in exciting exhibitions focusing on the lives and individuals who make history. Stories have a transformative power to captivate, convince and encourage. As creative designers, we are responsible for harnessing this power by creating experiences that foster empathy and inspire action. The stories we tell explore how we can change people, places and even the planet, now and for the future. Highlighting the power of interpretation to understand our world better, explore and imagine potential new worlds, and provide audiences with opportunities to act on what they discover. We create experiences that evoke moments of awe, address complex and contested narratives, tell the untold, and take audiences on epic narrative journeys.' Inspiring Heritage Ltd

Both Amy and I love eating seafood, and it's at the top of our agenda if we go away to the coast. Creating a restaurant as part of our Storyland Studios Design Competition entry, based on the unusual sea creatures that had found their way through the portals, seemed like a dream job. The restaurant name, 'Ugly Fish', resulted from a combination of a hanging wooden fish in our bathroom, which is not the most handsome of creatures, and some of the funnier reference images we found. It just seemed to fit. Amy then spent the next day creating "Burt" - the ugly fish, which we used for the logo. Amy tasked herself with the fish and creature designs after she stopped laughing at my sketches, which were apparently hilarious. At one point, the whole family sat around the dining table one night, drawing weird-looking fish to see what we could come up with. Our favourite? The Death Armoured Viper Emperor, commonly known as DAVE! We loved him so much that we made a tee shirt with him to sell in the shop, featuring the slogan: DAVE - tastes like chicken. It's for a friend who doesn't share our or his wife's love of fish, so if we drag him to a fish restaurant, he always asks if there is chicken on the menu. You can see the full presentation featuring DAVE using the below link: https://lnkd.in/e3-gJJBh

  • We are super excited to announce that our submission for the Storyland Studios Challenge has been accepted and is now live! Although I have been in the attraction industry for over 35 years, mainly involved in aquarium design and fit-out, I have never designed a complete attraction and ride from scratch. The competition challenged Amy and me to think outside the box and unleash our creativity. We love visiting theme parks, particularly the water rides and getting wet (as you can see in the last image - yes, we were a lot younger!). On our previous trip to Disney World in 2022, we were blown away by the Rise of the Resistance and Avatar Flight of Passage rides and wanted to create something as thrilling and immersive. Amy and I worked on this project over six weeks, and it was fantastic to work on something we are passionate about. There are some fantastic entries and ideas, and we look forward to seeing the finalists. Here's a link to our entry: https://lnkd.in/ePHuUeQ5

What an amazing night at the Silent Disco held at the Nothe Fort in Weymouth! Two of us went, not knowing what to expect, and sang and danced all night. The great part was that many people were middle-aged, although there was a great mix of all ages. Young people can go to nightclubs, but little is available for people of a certain age. Out came the sequins, glitter, and neon pink hair (and that was just me), and everyone unleashed their inner dancing queens. The event was completely sold out. Such an innovative way for museums and heritage centres to bring in another source of revenue. Congratulations to SHUSH EVENTS (UK) LIMITED, for making this such a fantastic event! https://lnkd.in/e47BuJfk #Museuminnovation #Silentdisco

  • They got it! The model diorama was finally delivered to the Leonardo office in Bristol. I want to thank the guys who helped unload the massive crate and all the office staff for their patience while we took over the floorspace. Richard Hale did a brilliant job creating each individual component of this diorama and thoroughly enjoyed himself—possibly too much! A big thank you to Anna Bonisoli Alquati and Jan Boyes BEng FCMI CMgr for their input and support. #modelmaking #Innovation #creativity

  • A quirky stay in a secret Second World War airbase in Norfolk, complete with 1940s decor and a D-Day anniversary weekend? Count us in! This incredible B&B, built in 1943 on the decommissioned site of RAF North Creake, blends wartime chic with modern-day comfort. The attention to detail is remarkable, and the building exudes WW2 aviation history. Combine that with numerous artefacts unearthed from the site and you have an art-deco haven. We stayed for a captivating weekend, during which we learned about the role of the control tower during D-Day courtesy of owner Nigel Morter. We also visited the runways where two squadrons of Stirling Bombers and Halifax Bombers flew their first operation supporting the D-Day landings on the night of June 5th. Their role was to carry out secret radio countermeasures. Eight of us staying at the B&B were hanging on to Nigel's every word as he described the night of June 5th, 1944. Nigel's account was so captivating we almost expected to hear the roar of the Stirlings above us. A photograph taken during WW2 hangs on the wall. It features the first-floor balcony from which airmen once observed the nearby runways, reminding you that you are walking in the footsteps of history. Just before we left, Richard did a very quick sketch in their Guest Book to thank them for such a fabulous weekend. A few weeks later, it appeared on their Facebook page. If you fancy stepping back in time or learning about this secret base, you can check out the Control Tower: https://lnkd.in/eTY6JBgA #WW2 #DDay

  • We were lucky enough to recently squeeze in a whirlwind visit to the stunning Bowood House & Gardens It is a beautiful place to visit in Wiltshire and has popped up in the production of several historical dramas - Poldark, Sanditon and Downton Abbey. The original house, as seen in the black-and-white photos, was built around 1725. However, most of it was demolished in 1956 after becoming dilapidated following use during WW2. What is left of the building is shown in the colour photos. For those who are wondering why there is a photo of Napoleon's death mask, Bowood House has a few exhibitions, one of which features the French Emperor. #Historyhit #Heritage #Museumexhibitions

  • What a busy month! One of us managed to squeeze in a Dorset Chamber meeting after recently becoming a member. It is a very supportive organisation for businesses and has a lot of networking opportunities. It was a fabulous event at The Tank Museum. Despite arriving a tad late, it was great to meet the new director, Chris Price, and chat about the museum's future plans. Lots of exciting stuff on the horizon. The photos were taken by Frames by Ben: https://lnkd.in/ed4t9TuT
