🚨 The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) is seeking a new Director of Communications. The successful applicant will join the IEA's senior leadership team, manage its communications department, and be responsible for promoting its work through traditional and digital media, events, and public affairs. First and foremost, this job requires a strong understanding of economics, policy, and the principles of classical liberalism. The IEA particularly welcomes applicants who combine a background in policy research with exceptional communication skills. 💼 Responsibilities: Develop and lead our communications, marketing, and brand strategy. Manage its communications team, currently consisting of a communications officer and a digital production manager. Write and distribute press releases promoting IEA research and responding to important news stories. Design and implement broader promotional efforts for IEA publications, conferences, and so on. Represent the IEA in print, digital, and broadcast media, including by writing op-eds and giving interviews. Build relationships with journalists and policymakers. Play a key role in designing the IEA's public and private events programme. Oversee and participate in the IEA's audio-visual output, including its weekly podcast and other videos. Lead the development of the IEA website, Substack, and social media presence. Advise the IEA's executive director and senior leadership team on communications matters. ✅ Qualifications: A successful applicant must have outstanding communication and presentational skills. In particular, they will be an exceptional writer, capable of distilling complex ideas into clear and succinct prose. They will have a very well developed understanding of contemporary policy debates, free market economics, and classical liberal principles. They must also be an effective manager and strategic thinker, able to develop junior staff and continuously improve the IEA's output and impact. Relevant professional experience is an advantage, as is an academic grounding in economics, political science, public policy, or a related field. However, we are more interested in ability than credentials and are happy to consider unconventional applicants. Find out more and apply ⤵ https://lnkd.in/efy4UaEC

The UK's original free-market think-tank!
About us
The IEA is the UK's original free-market think-tank, founded in 1955. Our mission is to improve understanding of the fundamental institutions of a free society by analysing and expounding the role of markets in solving economic and social problems. Given the current economic challenges facing Britain and the wider global environment, it is more vital than ever that we promote the intellectual case for a free economy, low taxes, freedom in education, health and welfare and lower levels of regulation. The IEA also challenges people to think about the correct role of institutions, property rights and the rule of law in creating a society that fosters innovation, entrepreneurship and the efficient use of environmental resources. The IEA is an educational charity (No CC 235 351) and independent research institute limited by guarantee. The Institute is entirely independent of any political party or group, and is entirely funded by voluntary donations from individuals, companies and foundations who want to support its work, plus income from book sales and conferences. It does no contract work and accepts no money from government. Established in 1955 by the late Sir Anthony Fisher and Lord Harris, the IEA's first Director General, and joined by Arthur Seldon as the first Editorial Advisor, the IEA has a long and proud history.

🤔 "Labour’s electoral base is heavily biased towards young and middle-aged voters. They don’t do well among the over 65-year-olds, and that’s unlikely to change, so that age group is probably an easier target for them, for fiscal savings." 📢 The IEA's Head of Political Economy, Kristian Niemietz, was quoted in @Telegraph. He commented on the need for Chancellor Rachel Reeves to delay senior prescription benefits from 60 to 65.👇

🤔 "It is good to hear the Governor raising the prospect of faster cuts in the future, but the reality is rates are too high now. With the full effects of past increases still coming through, the Bank risks falling further behind." 📉 Julian Jessop, the IEA Economics Fellow, was quoted in the Daily Express discussing Andrew Bailey's propositions of interest rate cuts.
