  • 📽 Saul Klein, a leading venture capitalist, joined Gary Dushnitsky, Associate Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at London Business School, to explore London’s rise as a global tech powerhouse. Klein reflected on the evolution of the UK’s innovation ecosystem over the past two decades, positioning London as the "New Palo Alto" and highlighted its distinctive approach to values-driven #entrepreneurship. The discussion touched on key growth sectors such as #AI, #biotech, and #fintech, as well as the importance of talent diversity and pro-innovation regulation in shaping London’s future. Klein and Dushnitsky also examined how the UK’s regulatory environment is paving the way for groundbreaking advancements in technology and finance. • 🌍 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗙𝗙𝗜 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 As part of our commitment to expanding our family enterprise initiatives, London Business School’s Institute of Entrepreneurship and Private Capital (IEPC) had the honor of hosting the 2024 Family Firm Institute (FFI) Global Conference, welcoming almost 300 delegates. This year’s theme, "Mean Time: Time, Timing, and Timeliness in Family Enterprise," set the stage for essential discussions on the unique dynamics of family businesses. The conference opened with a powerful session from Dava Sobel on 'What Time Tells Us', exploring time’s influence on life and business, from historic timekeeping to her own experiences in time-isolation research. Sir Andrew Likierman, Professor of Management Practice in Accounting at LBS closed the conference with an impactful presentation on Judgment in Family Firms, introducing his judgment framework in the family enterprise context for the first time. Supported by examples across industries and countries, his session demonstrated ways family firms can improve their most crucial decisions—whether corporate or familial. Initially applied to leadership in a Harvard Business Review article in 2020, Sir Andrew’s framework has since been adopted by UK regulators and professional bodies and will feature in a book set for 2025. Designed to help family members and advisors make sounder judgments about key business choices and familial roles, this framework empowers family firms to navigate complex decision-making processes with clarity and confidence. Hosting this year’s FFI Conference underscores our dedication to fostering a robust ecosystem for family enterprise education and networking at London Business School. We are excited to support the growth, resilience, and success of family businesses worldwide. Read more: https://lnkd.in/e2xd43ka #FFI2024 #FamilyEnterprise #Judgment #Leadership #FamilyBusiness

  • Entrepreneurship and Private Capital at London Business School is hosting The Summit Series. Join us next Wednesday, October 30 at London Business School 💥

✨ We are delighted to invite you to the Summit Series event featuring Connie Nam, Founder and CEO of Astrid & Miyu, who will be in conversation with Jane Khedair, Executive Director of the Institute of Entrepreneurship and Private Capital at London Business School. About Connie Nam 💍 📿 Connie Nam launched Astrid & Miyu in 2012, trying to solve her personal pain points of not being able to find well made, well designed jewellery pieces with an exciting brand experience. The inspiration comes from her childhood travels around the world. Her favourite past time was going to markets with her mum and sister and picking out jewellery that always had a story. She wanted to bring the warmth and story telling to the high street.

  • 🚀 It's fantastic to see a London Business School alumnus-founded startup on Poets&Quants' 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝟭𝟬𝟬 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁-𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗠𝗕𝗔 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽𝘀 𝗢𝗳 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 list! 🌟 Tamara, co-founded by Abdulmohsen Al Babtain (MBA2020), debuted at No. 2, raising an impressive $955.6 million since its 2020 launch. 👏 As Saudi Arabia’s first #fintech #unicorn, Tamara enables customers to make purchases in smaller, interest-free payments at over 26,000 global stores, including Ikea, H&M, and Shein. “Venture capital (VC) investment has generally slowed down in 2024, continuing a trend that started in 2022,” Jane Khedair, executive director of London Business School’s Institute of Entrepreneurship and Private Capital, tells Poets&Quants. “MBAs who have accepted a correction in inflated valuations have typically been more successful at securing funding, although typically only once they have proven traction with revenues rather than at their initial launch stage. With many of today’s fintechs being premised on AI, their ability to scale has driven their ability to attract substantial investment.” Khedair tells P&Q that many of LBS’ start-ups are in fintech, reflecting the business and finance backgrounds of many of its students. The school’s #entrepreneurial approach caters to the many ways MBAs want to engage in the space – whether it’s starting a venture, joining a high-growth startup, leading innovation at an established company, pursuing a career in private capital, or even growing their own family business. MBAs can tailor a wide and expanding range of entrepreneurial courses to their interests while learning the entire cycle of business creation.
