A strong display today from ITI CEO Sara Robertson FRSA FIIC, alongside John Worne and Mike Orlov at the  Public Services Committee hearing on interpreting and translation services in the courts. They made a powerful case for a minimum of a Level 6 qualification for court interpreters, increased recognition, and better pay and conditions. Link to the recording of the session in the comments.

Six titles have been shortlisted for the 2024 Warwick Prize for Women in Translation. The judges said of the shortlist “In addition to the special showcase it provides for women writers in translation from around the world, this vital prize also stands out for its freedom to celebrate outstanding achievement in every corner of the literary scene. From Brazil to South Korea to Poland, we honour superbly translated work from great writers of the present and the recent past.” The winner will be announced on 21 November.  #literarytranslation #translation

A new study from the University of Surrey has found that remote medical interpreting (RMI) may be hindering health care communication rather than helping it. The research found that remote interpreting technologies may affect the quality of communication between health care providers and patients. "There is a critical need for health care institutions to recognize the potential pitfalls of relying solely on remote interpreting technologies. As health care continues to evolve in the digital age, understanding the limitations of these systems is crucial for fostering effective communication and ensuring patient safety," says Professor Sabine Braun.
