We’re excited to share the third of four Turning the Tide wrap-up reports 🌊 'Blue economy’ explores the case for moving away from extractive activities in the marine and coastal environment, and instead prioritising natural capital approaches and a circular economy. You can read the full report, along with the first two publications, at the link below. The UN Ocean Decade-endorsed ‘Turning the Tide: systems thinking for a sustainable ocean’ project covered four key themes in marine and coastal science from a systems thinking perspective: ‘Bridging the gap between land and sea’; ‘Blue carbon’; ‘Blue economy’; and ‘Marine conservation and restoration’. The final report will be released next week, followed by a final publication comprised of all four themes 🌊 If you haven’t already joined, why not become part of the IES’ Marine and Coastal Sciences Community? You can also request to join our Marine and Coastal Science LinkedIn group to connect with like-minded peers working, or interested in, the sector. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ew5MrvK6

The IES is pleased to share that the latest edition of environmental SCIENTIST – titled A Planetary Prescription – is now open access and readily accessible on our website (link below). This issue explores how environmental health and human health are intertwined, showcasing some of the latest commentary and research on how our health can be affected by environmental issues: including air pollution, the increase in mould and fungal spores in our homes, emerging contaminants of concern like PFAS and pesticides, and the impacts of waste incineration on our wellbeing. With a wide range of contributors hailing from universities, non-profit organisations, the UK Health Security Agency and more, our writers share their perspectives and insights into the health challenges we face that are caused, or exacerbated by, climate change and other anthropogenic environmental issues. https://lnkd.in/enW5q-FT Thanks to all of our brilliant contributors in this issue: Professor Anna Hansell, Samuel Cai, Simon Opher MP, nick mole, Dom Higgins, Emma-Jane Goode, Emma Marczylo, Holly Lam, Sani Dimitroulopoulou, Shlomo Dowen, Josh Dowen, Claire Holman, Stephanie Metzger, Jo Barnes, Ana Bonell, and Jainaba Badjie
