Engineering Services

We are a collaborative Building Services Engineering and Environmental Consultancy with expertise in zero carbon design.

About us

We’re helping to create a world where every building is truly zero carbon. This is a hugely important ambition, one that the whole industry is getting behind. It’s how we do what we do that makes us different. All our engineers are environmental designers, so we approach day-to-day challenges without losing sight of the bigger picture. We listen and are open-minded. Thinking deeply about the way a building works, we search for practical solutions. We collaborate and innovate with our clients to create the most efficient, sustainable and integrated systems possible. We demystify, simplify and clarify. Straight talking and open in our work, we use detailed modelling and analysis to inform our designs and keep clients in the picture every step of the way. We do what we say we will do. And do it well.

  • Reciprocal House – A timeless blend of architectural heritage and engineering innovation. We’re delighted to have served as the mechanical and electrical engineers on this award-winning project, collaborating with GIANNI BOTSFORD ARCHITECTS LIMITED. This dwelling has a unique history, as the original extension was designed by Sir Norman Foster at the beginning of his career and the name acknowledges the reciprocal nature between the two architects. The home was recently recognised as one of the winners of the The Architectural Review AR House awards and received the individual house award from Schüco UK Limited. It has also recently been featured on Dezeen and Architecture Today. The house has captured attention for its industrial aesthetic, thoughtful integration of passive design principles and seamless connection to the natural surroundings. All services were embedded and concealed within the concrete to enhance the aesthetic. The design incorporates an all-electric approach, based on heat pumps, complemented by carefully considered environmental strategies like natural ventilation and exposed thermal mass for night cooling. Discover the unique history behind this remarkable home and its innovative features on our website: https://lnkd.in/g_pyibKN

Gianni Botsford Architects have designed something as unusual as an extension of an existing extension in London’s Hampstead. The original extension, from 1968: a lean-to structure abutting a coach house and a bold extension by the then-little known firm Foster Associates. After considering many options, explains Elly Duffy in her write-up, ‘the decision fell in favour of demolishing the lean-to structure and creating an entirely new host structure for the little‑known but historically important early Foster project – perhaps not the easiest of architectural propositions.’ Read the full piece on Reciprocal House, commended in this year’s AR House awards, in print and now online: https://lnkd.in/eYpftEFP

  • A great way to start 2025 – Clarendon Road in Wood Green, a new 222 unit co-living development, has been granted planning permission. This will be the first co-living scheme in the London Borough of Haringey.  Working alongside J Group, PRP Architects and Q Square, Integration carried out full MEP design duties, including energy and sustainability, overheating, TM54 operational energy, circular economy and whole-life carbon. The scheme also meets the WELL standard to help ensure health and wellbeing design considerations are fully integrated. We are excited to help bring this vision to life and create a vibrant, community-focused space, with fitness facilities and 2,500 sq ft of workspace to support start-ups and entrepreneurs within the Haringey community.

  • We’re delighted to announce that Ali Ahmad, one of our talented electrical engineers, has recently become Chartered—a significant accomplishment in building services engineering! Ali comes from a lineage of engineers, following in the footsteps of his Grandfather, who earned a master’s in HVAC in the 1950s and later establishing his own company in Pakistan. This legacy was carried forward by Ali’s Father, shaping his passion for engineering from an early age. Ali began his consulting career in 2013 after moving to the UK in 2010 and earning a master’s degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Management from The University of Glasgow. At Integration, he is currently contributing to major projects such the Park View Place development, a vibrant 3.25 hectare masterplan in Ealing bringing forward new homes and community facilities. We're proud to have Ali on our team and can’t wait to see what he accomplishes next!

We’re delighted to see one of our projects—a beautiful Chelsea townhouse—featured in a video by Intérieur UK. In collaboration with Nash Baker Architects, we contributed to the MEP design, ensuring all risers and mechanical elements were neatly concealed for a seamless aesthetic. As Ahmed Shawky from Nash Baker Architects says in the video, “We wanted to consolidate all the risers and mechanical elements away from view.” Check out the video to see how thoughtful design and technical expertise come together! https://lnkd.in/gFgm5BRv

The spaces we design can have a significant impact on health and well-being. While natural daylight, air quality and comfortable temperatures are often considered key drivers, what about other factors like our sense of smell? Integration has partnered with Los Angeles-based scent experts, L’Oeil du Vert, to explore innovative ways of infusing organic essential oil vapors into environments such as art galleries and high-end retail spaces. This article delves into how natural botanical fragrances influence people's emotions and highlights how L’Oeil du Vert has used this technique to create a calm atmosphere. If you would like to learn more about how to use scenting to evoke specific emotions in your space, get in touch: hello@integration.com

  • Hardess Yard has been granted planning permission! This 320-unit co-living development in Brixton, featuring 1,400 m² of workspace for local creatives and businesses, exemplifies modern urban living. The scheme meets the highest sustainability standards, including BREEAM Outstanding and WELL Platinum. To achieve this, we carried out a range of technical exercises, such as passive design studies, carbon and overheating modelling and the preparation of energy and sustainability statements. The building is all-electric with centralised air source heat pumps providing heating and hot water, thermal energy storage for flexible energy use, wastewater heat recovery, and bio-solar PV arrays. We have thoroughly enjoyed the design journey with an exceptional team led by PLP Architecture and developer LGL, tackling challenges such as integrating space-efficient building services strategies and meeting ambitious carbon and overheating targets. As co-living continues to grow in popularity, it’s exciting to see schemes like this come to life, offering innovative and sustainability-focused solutions that push boundaries forward.    #CoLiving #UrbanLiving #WellStandard #BREEAMOutstanding
