INTERCARGO attended one of the premier global maritime events, Pilbara Ports’ Safe Ships, Safe Ports Forum held in the beautiful city of Perth, Western Australia. INTERCARGO Technical Committee Chairman-elect Dimitris Monioudis, and Marine-Quality Manager Paul Markides joined representatives of over 25 INTERCARGO members at the Forum which attracted over 500 attendees on October 21 and 22. Pilbara Ports Authority is the world’s largest bulk export port authority serving 7,700 vessel calls with over 750 million tons of cargo throughput, valued in excess of US$100 billion per annum. INTERCARGO was proud to promote members’ concerns with ports, regulators and cargo reps. We are looking forward to continuing the good work in 2025. #Australia #shipping #port #maritime #Pilbara

INTERCARGO has successfully participated in the Tripartite 2024 in Shanghai. The delegation led by Dimitris Monioudis, Chairman-elect of the Technical Committee with Ed Wroe, Technical Manager, and Joe Zhou, Operations Manager, joined the annual Tripartite meeting between ship member organisations, shipbuilder associations and classification representatives. The Tripartite was held in Shanghai, China for the first time since the COVID-19 disruption. INTERCARGO participated actively in all the panel discussions covering current dry cargo sector challenges such as newbuilding standards, ballast water and waste management, remote class surveys and digitalisation, seeking pragmatic solutions to problems experienced by INTERCARGO members on a daily basis. The next Tripartite meeting will be held in South Korea in November 2025 and preparations are already underway. #Tripartite #Shanghai #shipping #decarbonisation

𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗚𝗢 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗽'𝘀 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗴𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗸 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀' 𝗩𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 INTERCARGO members have voiced deep concerns regarding RightShip’s recent decision to reduce the age limit of bulk carriers eligible for vetting inspections, as discussed during the Association’s Executive Committee meeting held in London on 15th October. This decision was made without prior consultation with the owners and managers of bulk carriers, the very stakeholders who will be impacted by such changes. While we fully support efforts to enhance safety and quality standards across the industry, we believe that significant operational decisions, such as this, should involve input from all relevant stakeholders. An inclusive approach ensures a fair and measured process, giving the industry the necessary time to adapt—especially in light of the significant operational challenges faced by seafarers, who have already expressed serious concerns over the increasing workload. In light of these issues, we strongly urge RightShip to reconsider the timeline for implementing this decision, particularly as the current vetting inspection regime was only introduced two years ago. A delay in applying the new age limit would allow ship operators and seafarers sufficient time to adjust to the evolving requirements, while upholding the high standards of safety and efficiency that are essential to our industry. INTERCARGO remains dedicated to engaging with stakeholders across the maritime sector to ensure a safer, more efficient, and sustainable future for dry bulk shipping, and we call on RightShip and other key players to adopt a similarly inclusive approach.
