The prestigious award is in its 20th year and celebrates innovation and sustainability across the capital. 1 Berkeley Street is an existing building which was carefully retained and enhanced through complete internal refurbishment, facade refurbishment and new extensions to the rear and the addition of two levels to the existing building. 1 New Street Square has won the TEST OF TIME award at the BCO Awards 2024. The building, home to Deloitte since 2019, was the largest building in the world to achieve WELL Certified Gold and the first building to achieve WELL Certification and BREEAM dual certification. The 280,000 sq ft 15 storey building’s quality design gives stunning views over St. Paul’s through the large curved glass apexes. We are extremely proud, and know this building will continue to stand the test of time for years to come. Congratulations to all involved. We spent a day away from the office to explore Albion Stone plc ‘s prestigious quarry on the Isle of Portland, that has been producing Portland Stone for over 40 years. Interface Facade Engineering have worked with a range of natural stone, with Portland Stone being London's favourite. It was fascinating to visit the quarry and witness the stone mining process. Albion also invited us into their factory to see their stone manufacturing line from initial block preparation, primary and secondary sawing through to masonry work and finishing. As most stones are bespoke to individual requirements - we were able to see columns, cladding panels and intricate stone carvings produced using machinery as well as traditional techniques by hand. We were also able to see samples from our project at 242 Marylebone Road. Albion Stone also showed us their product range: Heritage Portland Stone Bricks - naturally produced and not heated to high temperatures unlike traditional clay fired bricks so are considered to have considerably less embodied carbon. Early involvement with stone manufacturers is essential for our projects so we can discuss stone sizing, visual aesthetic and anticipated programme. This is why our relationship with our industry peers is so important. Thank you to Albion Stone plc for hosting us!

A busy week, concluding with an enlightening and educational day at the South East Galvanisers plant - organised by the Galvanizers Association as part of their annual industry open day. The step by step galvanising process was demonstrated from the initial cleaning cycle, steelwork immersion, through to the post quenching treatment. Thank you for having us. 1 Berkeley Street has been shortlisted in the Mixed Use (built) category in this year’s New London Awards. 81% of the existing facade and frame elements were retained while creating a two storey rooftop extension, new pavilion at Dover Street’s corner and a new garden courtyard extension.
