#NEWS. New research from the IAPB and the Seva Foundation shows that a child with poor vision learns approximately half as much as a child with good or corrected vision. This translates directly into lifetime earnings for the individual; for example, if a five-year-old is provided with glasses in primary school and continues to wear them until they are 18, they will earn, on average, 78% more over their lifetime than if they never had their vision corrected. More than a billion people worldwide don't have access to the eye care services they need. Our #EyeCreation for Sightsavers #WorldSightDay campaign highlights how technology can be a powerful tool to help find and connect people to life changing care. 👁 📱 We're working with brilliant organisations like Sightsavers to bring better vision and eye health to the people who need it most. 📷 Photo shows our app to support vision screening and referrals in communities, schools and workplaces.

Last week, Samoa celebrated #WorldSightDay with an event hosted by Falefitu Primary School. Run in collaboration with the Samoa Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) and funded by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, this event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of eye care, in particular children's eye health, in keeping with this year's theme. Acting Prime Minister (Deputy Prime Minister), Tuala Iosefo Ponifasio spoke to this in his address. “This resonates profoundly Samoa. Our children are the future of our Nation, and their wellbeing is paramount. A child’s ability to see clearly is essential for their education, development, and overall quality of life”. He also highlighted how collaborations such as these are key to Samoa’s goal of ensuring quality eye care services are accessible for all. As hosts of the event, students were invited to participate and one stepped up to share why he thinks it is important to care for your eyes. “Love your eyes, because without good vision, it is very difficult to achieve my goals and complete my education.” The Samoa eye care team then ran activities to teach the students more about their eyes and provided free eye checks to test their vision. #EyeCareForAll #WSD2024

Today is #WorldSightDay! It’s a reminder for all of us to love our eyes and prioritize our eye health. This year there is a special focus on child eye health. Healthy eyes enable children to learn, play and thrive, setting the foundation for a brighter future. We’re challenging everyone to consider the health of their eyes and book their annual eye exam. We also encourage you to download the FREE eye health resources available at: https://lnkd.in/gsQUfCmd
