  • Published in The Municipal Journal (MJ), this #ThrowbackThursday is taking a look at the Methanometer. An early instrument for the detection of CH₄ (Methane) 🔥 The Municipal Journal (TMJ) is a well-known publication focusing on government news, analysis, and policy. Established in 1893 and is still being produced and published online and in print. This device featured no dials, instead, a bulb switched on in the presence of #flammable gases. Using a pair of bellows, that contracted when gases diffused through a porous housing, and burnt when coming into contact with the filament. For a more detailed explanation, check out our previous throwbacks 👀 The L.C.C. Northern Outfall Works refers to a critical infrastructure project developed by the #London County Council, for treating sewage and wastewater. Part of London’s historic sewage system still operates as one of the major outfall works responsible for treating waste before discharging it into the River Thames. "There is a Ringrose (International Gas Detectors Ltd.) instrument designed to meet your own special safety requirements..." and still holds true today. • #CarbonMonoxide (CO) is a colourless, odourless, tasteless, and toxic gas produced by incomplete combustion. It's particularly dangerous as human senses cannot detect it and is a highly poisonous gas in low concentrations, making it a "silent killer." ☣️ This means that anything that burns can generate Carbon Monoxide, Low level exposure over time can have lasting health effects. Every year, around 30 people accidentally die in the UK from CO poisoning. If you're burning fuel to heat your home or use gas for cooking then you need to fit carbon monoxide detectors 🔥 IGD have several fixed safety solutions for CO detection, with most of our equipment having sensor options, including:  ✔ TOC-750 Safe Area Detector ✔ TOC-750S Sampling Gas Detector ✔ TOC-750X ATEX Area Detector ✔ TOC-903-X5 ATEX Area Dual Gas Detector As well as a several portable safety options: ✔ SENKO SGT-P Portable Gas Detector ✔ SENKO MGT-P Portable Multi-Gas Detection ✔ mPower UNI Portable Gas Detector ✔ mPower POLI Portable Multi-Gas Detector Get in touch to find out how we can help you with safety equipment, with a solution that's designed for your plant #gassafetyweek #gasdetection

  • Continuing the theme of #GasSafetyWeek (even though every week is a gas safety week when you're IGD) 👀 IGD provided detectably better N2O gas detectors to the NHS. Issues of high-level N2O leakage across the service led to concern among safety management ⚠ They were looking for a reliable and high-quality N2O gas detector solution to prevent this exposure and found that IGD was best suited to provide this solution. N2O may not be perceived as dangerous because of how frequently it is used. However, #N2O has regulated workplace exposure levels. Long-term exposure can also cause vitamin B12 deficiency, numbness, and reproductive side effects 💊 The NHS required a fixed and portable monitor solution that could detect low-level leaks and reliably measure nurses’ Time Weighted Average exposure.   The TOC-750S is a fixed sampling gas detector that provides high-quality gas detection in areas that are difficult to reach or harsh for normal diffusion sensors, such as those used in our TOC-750 safe area detector. With features such as: 🚫 Virtually no moving parts and near silent operation 📏 Reads to a 1ppm resolution 0️⃣ Extreme zero stability for N2O detection 🔌 Available on IGD's industry-leading 2-Wire Addressable 🇬🇧 Designed and manufactured by IGD in the UK The NHS received the solution, servicing, and support from IGD. IGD provide free owner-operator training to ensure site-designated personnel know how to use the portables and incorporate the combined solution into safe operating procedures. Contact IGD today to learn more about our detectably better N2O gas detector solutions or, for over 700 gases and vapours. Backed by over 100 years of gas detection experience 📞

  • This week (Monday 9th to Sunday 15th September) is National Gas Safety Week: an annual event in the UK, aimed at raising awareness of the importance of gas safety in homes and workplaces 🔥☣ The week emphasizes the need for registered engineers to regularly service gas boilers, cookers, and fires to prevent gas leaks, carbon monoxide poisoning, and other hazards. As well as installing appropriate gas detection, to act as a stop-gap for any potential hazards that do arise. To find out how we can support you with common gas hazards, keep an eye out on the International Gas Detectors Ltd LinkedIn page this week 👀 Or get in touch with us for a consultation on the specific applications we can provide for your site 📩 #gasdetection #gassafety

  • Taking the fear out of going to the dentist, with detectably better detection for N₂O 👀 For this week's #FixedGasDetectionFriday, we're taking you to a dental hospital. Here they store bottles of nitrous oxide, commonly referred to as #Entonox in the medical industry, as well as carbon dioxide. Entonox, is a 50:50 mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen used for pain relief in minor medical procedures. It provides fast-acting pain reduction with minimal side effects 😮💨 CO2 is commonly used in lasers in various procedures to cut or reshape soft tissue. With all compressed gas, there's a likelihood of it leaking from containment at some point, and it's better to know sooner rather than later. On this site we installed: 🎛️ TOC-635 PLUS Control Panel as the brains of the operation ☣️ TOC-750 Safe Area Detector for Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) ⚠️ TOC-750S Sampling Detector for Entonox (N₂O) 🔣 TOC-750-ANN Room Status Indicator 🔋 Battery backup in the event of a power failure 🚨 Beacon sounders for audible and visual alerts The TOC-750S is the ideal solution for this application, being the only detector in the industry that can provide low-level N₂O detection. With other features including: ✅ Groundbreaking Sentinel+ addressable technology ✅ Auto-zero function ✅ Low maintenance due to almost no moving parts ✅ <20M Sample line ✅ Near continuous detection ✅ 1 L/Min sampling rate ✅ Excellent zero stability ✅ Constant flow monitoring To find out more about this application, check out the application pages on our website. • Breweries can have a large number of gas hazards throughout the process of creating their products, from fermentation to consumer purchase. These can include: ☣️ Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) ☣️ Nitrogen (N) ☣️ Sulphur Dioxide (SO₂) In the case of a local brewery IGD worked with, Robinsons Brewery, their most pressing hazard was CO₂, produced during the fermentation process, but also present in the bottling, delivery and beer-tapping processes. Robinsons is a family-run local brewery, founded in Stockport in the mid-1800s. After brewing their first ales in 1849, they quickly expanded to make a name for themselves throughout the Stockport area 📈 Not all applications suit fixed gas detection, and in this instance, the most suitable option was to supply them with the Senko Europe iGas Personal CO₂ monitor. Portable CO₂ detectors enhance personal protection from this gas, reaching areas that fixed devices cannot ☣️ Choosing the right portable CO₂ detector is essential to your business and your team's safety, but it can be difficult to know which is the right one as there out so many options on the market. The Senko Europe iGas Personal CO₂ monitor offers the following benefits: 🔘 Simple 2-button operation 🛜 NDIR (Nondispersive infrared) sensor for both PPM and VOL measurements 🪶 Lightweight and compact 📅 5 to 7 Year average sensor lifetime 🔨 Durable rubberise polycarbonate housing 🔋 14-Day battery run time and charging via micro-USB 🔌 Easy event downloading via micro USB 🔄 Sensors, batteries, rubber housing, etc. are all replaceable To find out more, check out the top 10 features of the iGas portable CO2 detector article on our website or the gas detection for the drinks industry application page 🍺 #gasdetection #portablegasdetection #gassafety
