  • In an emergency meeting held this weekend, the ILGA World Board unanimously decided to remove a bid from The Aguda, a member organisation based in Israel who proposed to host their next World Conference in Tel Aviv. We call on sister organisations to keep speaking, to tell the truth, to ensure our movement stands the test of time. We stand in solidarity with girls and women in all their diversity, with LGBTQ people, with our sisters in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, the DRC, Sudan, Myanmar and elsewhere. We demand sexual and reproductive rights for ALL. Read our full statement 👇 https://lnkd.in/gnPBZKNw

  • Kevin Mwachiro is a trailblazing storyteller, committed to ensuring LGBTQI narratives in Africa are told with dignity, honesty, and hope. Growing up, Kevin faced an internal struggle, finding it difficult to look in the mirror and fully accept himself in a society that labeled his sexuality an ‘abomination.’ Yet, through the support of friends, chosen family, and community allies, he has journeyed toward self-acceptance and strength. Over the last 17 years, he’s used his voice and skills to bridge the gap between past and present, building safe spaces and reclaiming narratives. Through his work, Kevin continues to uncover rich histories that celebrate diverse identities within the continent, challenging the idea that queerness is 'un-African'. Kevin’s journey is a testament to resilience, pride, and the power of storytelling to inspire acceptance and change. 🏳️🌈✊ Read his full story 👇 https://lnkd.in/gKC6TBNC

  • US Conservative groups are funding hate in Africa. 💵US anti-rights organisations are pumping over $16 million in funding to African churches. Why? To fuel homophobic narratives, and roll-back decades of progress on sexual and reproductive rights. 🚫This attack on human rights is both disgusting and dangerous. We refuse to stand by while African communities are manipulated by hateful foreign agendas. 🇺🇸No matter the outcome of the US elections next month, these groups are already emboldened and will continue their lobbying. ✊This is a direct threat to our freedom, our dignity, and our futures. We must fight back! Full report by the Institute for Journalism and Social Change (IJSC) 🔽 🔗https://lnkd.in/grw2ezwk

  • This model is transforming reproductive health care in India ⬇️ Yesterday at the Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) Forum 2024, our Member Association FPA India's Director of Gender and Rights, Nisha Jagdish, shared valuable insights about the ARCHES model currently active in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. The ARCHES model—Addressing Reproductive Coercion in Health Settings—is designed to support women facing reproductive challenges and reduce gender-based violence. This adaptation is unique in nature. How? 💐 It involves a co-design process with different cadres of Sexual and Reproductive Health providers. 🔍 It engages local stakeholders, including youth and women group representatives, who are consulted as part of the ARCHES Advisory Board. ✊ It includes community-based providers like Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), Anganwadi Workers (AWWs), and FPAI volunteers in the rollout of the model. By involving these diverse voices, ARCHES aims to create a support network that truly reflects the community it serves, setting a new standard for adaptable and inclusive reproductive health services.

  • 🌍 At the SVRI Forum, Seri Wendoh, our Global Lead on Gender and Inclusion, shared how IPPF is adapting healthcare interventions to address reproductive coercion and violence in five countries. 🔍 By working closely with local experts and community health providers, we’re ensuring that these interventions are culturally relevant and effective. Seri emphasized that true success comes from trust, collaboration, and valuing each partner’s expertise. #SVRIForum24 Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) FPA India Mexfam A.C

  • “Our clinics are in Beqaa and Beqaa is under fire...We had a massacre beside the clinic – 15 people were killed”, shares Lina Sabra, Executive Director of SALAMA, IPPF's Member Association in Lebanon, recalling one of the deadliest nights of her life. On September 23rd, Israeli military attacks in Beqaa, forced the closure of two of our clinics that provided life-saving sexual and reproductive health services to around 60,000 people annually. These Israeli attacks across Lebanon have robbed women and girls of contraception, safe childbirth, and pushed them into unsafe abortions, unsafe pregnancies, miscarriages, and maternal deaths. Health workers are not targets - they deserve the same safety and support they give to others. IPPF is providing critical emergency funding to SALAMA, ensuring they can continue delivering these vital services and support in the midst of the crisis. #CeasefireNow

  • As attacks in Lebanon intensify, thousands are being forced to flee. IPPF Member Association, SALAMA, which once served thousands in Beqaa, has had to shut its clinics. Despite these immense challenges Executive Director of SALAMA, Lina Sabra and her team remain dedicated to the cause. Even while displaced themselves, they continue to provide essential sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services to local communities. In this interview, Lina reflects on her experiences, the obstacles they face, and the crucial importance of SRH services during a humanitarian crisis. Health workers are not targets - they deserve the same safety and support they give to others.
