Yesterday, members of our team attended 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗩𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 at the Grand Central Hotel, Belfast. Hosted by CIWM NI Centre and IEMA , the event brought together industry leaders, environmental professionals, and sustainability advocates for insightful discussions on climate, communication, and inclusive decision-making in #environmentalpolicy and practice. The day featured our wonderful host Vicki Hughes , a keynote from Louise Cullen, BBC Northern Ireland Environment Correspondent, followed by thought-provoking insights from Dr Rachael Singleton, Chair of Sustainable NI and Lecturer at Ulster University. Engaging panel discussions from Gawain Morrison Kate Brady Paul Monaghan Marcus Dundee Danielle McCormick Katy Fulton explored the role of collaboration and innovation in driving meaningful environmental change. It was an inspiring opportunity to connect with like-minded professionals, share best practices, and reinforce the importance of collective action in shaping a sustainable future. Events like these serve as a powerful reminder that #sustainability requires diverse perspectives and shared commitment. Thank you to CIWM NI Centre and IEMA for hosting such a valuable discussion. The EU has shocked the world with a huge pushback on key sustainability regulations and introduced a circularity target of 24% by 2030! CSRD (corporate sustainability reporting directive) ⛔️ 80% of companies are removed from the scope ⛔️ no sector-specific ESG standards reporting needed ⛔️ key milestones delayed for 2 more years ⛔️ instead of 250+ employee companies, CSRD now only applies to 1000+ employee companies CSDDD (corporate sustainability due diligence directive) ⛔️ monitoring frequency cuts from 1 year to every 5 years ⛔️ risk assessments now apply only to direct suppliers ⛔️ companies won't face penalties for civil liability ⛔️ application delayed till 2028 Instead, the EU came up with the "Clean Industrial Deal." And circularity plays a key role in it: 📌 A target of 24% circular materials by 2030 is set. 📌 An EU Critical Raw Material Centre will be established 📌 No measures to reduce the material consumption set Now it's up to the EU Parliament and the Council to decide on what this means for business and the planet. ❓Is this a critical moment for you? ❓What's your take on this? ❓Is the EU still a green leader? ❓Are you still going to adopt these directives?
