This interesting article by journalist Will Girling has just been published in Automotive World, exploring how the trends disrupting Asia's #automotive sector are driving new mergers and alliances - and quoting insights from our Thomas Shiekman. '... Tommy Shiekman, Automotive Specialist at international business development consultancy Intralink, believes [new Chinese EV players] will cause a significant rebalance of power in the Asian industry. In the near term, continuing to act alone will become difficult. '... Shiekman concludes that the trends favouring M&A will “only intensify further as competition and innovation in the Asian auto industry accelerate.”' It's well worth a read (subscription needed). (The factors reshaping the Asian industry are opening many opportunities for international automotive tech innovators, too. If you'd like to discuss what this could mean for your business, you can contact Tommy at thomas.shiekman@intralinkgroup.com.) https://lnkd.in/eJ2je5JV

Great to see this article in Startups Magazine about the initiative our UK-APAC Tech Growth Programme team just delivered for five British companies in the #quantumcomputing field. The UK delegation went to Quantum Korea 2024, where we arranged 35 meetings with #SouthKorean corporations to kick start commercial discussions. The UK companies were Wave Photonics (James Lee), Quantum Software Lab (Craig Skeldon), Cavero Quantum (James Trenholme), Element Six (Matthew Markham) and Oxford Instruments plc (Gayeon Jung), whose innovations attracted huge interest from the Korean corporations. If you'd like to be considered for initiatives such as this to help your business expand in Asia Pacific, you can find out more about the UK-APAC Tech Growth Programme and apply to join here: https://lnkd.in/ec6XcAwK https://lnkd.in/gaSwygEM

You may have seen that Stewart Randall, the Head of our Electronics Practice, went to the COMPUTEX show in #Taipei the other day – and was blown away by what he saw this year. Here he delves deeper into #Taiwan’s dynamic tech industry, explaining why the island is no longer only at the forefront of the global #semiconductor and #consumerelectronics scenes. It's seeing an explosion of #AI development. It presents big opportunities for international innovators in #renewableenergy, #digitaltransformation, #cybersecurity, #biotech. And it’s an attractive consumer market in its own right, with a population of 24 million, GDP set to exceed $1 trillion by the end of the decade, and an impressive array of home-grown tech startups looking for international partners to help them globalise. Let us know your perspective on the market. And if you’d like to discuss your business prospects in Taiwan, you can contact Stewart at stewart.randall@intralinkgroup.com. https://lnkd.in/euk8R4uc

We’re happy to have been appointed to run a long-term business development programme to help US chip innovator Rain AI to expand in #Japan. Rain AI is building the world’s most energy-efficient accelerator solutions for #AI inference and training – with tech that can operate in robots, drones, cars, smartphones, VR headsets and more. The company hit the headlines when it secured funding from AI pioneer Sam Altman, and it now has its sights set firmly on Japan’s rapidly growing #semiconductor and #electronics sectors. Our #Tokyo team’s remit is initially to license our new client's IP to fast-growing chip designers and to help Rain AI co-design accelerator solutions with Japanese corporations – with a drive to secure sales of its chips to follow. We’re greatly looking forward to working with CEO William Passo and the rest of the Rain AI team to achieve great things in Japan! See more below. And if you’d like to discuss your prospects in Japan, contact Thomas Shiekman at thomas.shiekman@intralinkgroup.com. https://lnkd.in/eReWV9eB

Because technical glitches prevented some from opening the link, we're reposting our latest #cleantech article ... “With tough net zero targets facing many Asian economies, the region’s cleantech companies represent attractive opportunities for international investors, while global cleantech firms will find many profitable openings.” So says Alexandra Gugay / 구가희, our Seoul-based specialist in Asia’s energy and industrial tech sectors. In this article, she describes a region that’s “ready to commit to disruptive cleantech solutions” and concerned about falling behind. And she explains how this presents considerable potential for #VCs profitably to fill investment gaps – and for international cleantech scaleups to expand – in #Japan, #China, #SouthKorea and across #SoutheastAsia. If you’d like to discuss the prospects that Asia’s “cleantech revolution" presents for your business, you can connect with Alexandra Gugay / 구가희 here or email her at alexandra.gugay@intralinkgroup.com. https://lnkd.in/e7jcPD7C

Stewart Randall, the Shanghai-based Head of our Electronics Practice, has been at COMPUTEX TAIPEI and InnoVEX in #Taiwan this week. And - as you can tell from his post below - he was blown away by what he saw and heard, underscoring Taiwan's place at the forefont of the global tech industry. If you'd like to discuss your prospects for doing business in or with Taiwan, you can connect with Stewart here or reach him at stewart.randall@intralinkgroup.com.
Wow, what a show! It felt like the entire tech world attended Computex and Innovex this year. I've never seen it so busy. If Taiwan wasn't already on the map for tech executives and entrepreneurs it certainly is now. As with many tech shows the past couple of years, AI was front and centre, and Taiwan is placing itself at the heart of this emerging industry. Jensen and Lisa were clear that they rely heavily on Taiwanese suppliers to make what they do possible, and announced further investments into Taiwan, as did other companies. New trends are emerging though, hardware cannot keep up with AI algorithm development, so methods will have to be found to optimise algorithms and perhaps do more AI compute on the edge like Kneron and Neuchips, among others, are exploring. In certain applications there are also security reasons to do this. It wasn't just AI though, the event showed off the strength of Taiwanese startups looking to go global and also brought in startups from around the world in areas such as smart retail, smart factory, consumer electronics, clean tech, IoT, and semiconductor. I even spoke to one startup from Chile with a solution to scare birds away from wind farms. So there was a bit of everything this year and I am certain it will be even larger next year. I'd like to thank Startup Island TAIWAN Startup Terrace Invest Taipei Office (ITO) Sakura Yang Sam Leng Florian Wohlrab COMPUTEX TAIPEI InnoVEX and the many interesting and intelligent people I met this week for making it so awesome. #computex #innovex #taiwan #intralink

Good to see this news article in Startups Magazine on our new report into the opportunities for UK #AI scaleups in #Japan. The report is the latest output of the UK-APAC Tech Growth Programme which we're running to provide free and subsidised support to help British innovators expand in #AsiaPacific. Written by Renata Naurzalieva and Ashley Nicole Hudson from our #Tokyo office, the study highlights how Japan is investing heavily to catch up with rivals the US and China in #artificialintelligence, but lacks the necessary software skills to do it alone, opening big opportunities for UK companies. You can see the magazine article below, and download the full report for free here: https://lnkd.in/eqsxkmmt https://lnkd.in/eUzJanpZ
