About us
South Tyneside lies at the geographical and industrial heart of the North East region. Its strategic importance at the mouth of the River Tyne dates as far back as the Roman era, and its maritime heritage is engrained within the borough’s DNA. South Tyneside now sits at the forefront of the UK’s future Green Economy. Its proximity to the world’s largest offshore wind farm, Dogger Bank, has attracted new businesses looking to capitalise on the future of the energy sector and diversify the economy. The internationally significant deep water Port of Tyne serves as the region’s gateway to global markets and trade, providing importing, exporting and supply chain opportunities to global companies. The International Advanced Manufacturing Park (IAMP), with Investment Zone status, showcases dedication to fostering growth and establishing an environment conducive to private sector innovation and investment. South Tyneside’s coastal location and cultural assets also attract over 7 million visitors a year. The borough features breathtaking scenic coastal walks, an exciting water sports offering, and amazing beaches, as evidenced by the 2022 Times Beach of the Year status.
