It was great to attend the AFME (Association for Financial Markets in Europe) #OPTIC2024 event this week, some fantastic speakers, content and insights shared. ✅ I particularly enjoyed hearing leadership from the likes of Citi, Clearstream and the European Commission discussing Capital Markets policy and the imperative of growth, removing barriers and reducing friction to attract investors. 📈 ✅Equally enjoyable and insightful were the panels hosted by Marcus Corry discussing the topic of DORA and the Future of Operations! I enjoyed being out and about last week in London, attending multiple events, learning new insights, making new connections and catching up with old friends. One of the highlights of the week was the opportunity to speak on Inveztor’s round table at the ICMA digital conference. Today I’m excited to be at the S&P Private Markets conference, which should be interesting. Thank you to the entire ICMA - International Capital Market Association team Georgina Jarratt Ravina Patel for putting on a very insightful, engaging and enjoyable ICMA FinTech & Digitalisation Forum yesterday! It was great to hear so many experts within their respective fields discussing hot topics and key themes in the industry right now, including the evolution from traditional to digital assets and the facilitation of Impact and Sustainable finance within capital markets 🌱 Inveztor was also delighted to have our very own Matt Dispain facilitate a roundtable session that looked at innovation within the fixed income industry and discussed the importance of the agents and their role at the heart of the DCM transactions. Some of the key takeaways from the discussion were; ✅ Agency is here to stay! ✅ The agency business has a unique opportunity as the 'nerve centre' of deals to drive innovation in a manner that benefits not only the agency business, but the wider ecosystem participants, particularly the issuers, law firms, ICSDs and Exchanges. ✅ The inherent complexity within the agency business and the associated security considerations is one of the reasons identified as to why FinTech's have not previously focused on this area. ✅ Data and its effective management and control throughout the deal lifecycle is critical - both in terms of optimising current ways of working as well as creating a foundation for the future digital world. ✅ The agency business is key in facilitating the transition to DLT and Digital Asset Securities to enable wider adoption and scale operational efficiency. Thank you to McDermott Will & Emery, Ranajoy Basu, Priya Taneja-Rathor and the wider team for hosting the Impact Finance Conference yesterday. It was incredibly engaging, enjoyable and thought provoking! The focus on unlocking the capital markets to facilitate and deliver impact to achieve the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) is fantastic to see and be a part of. As Dharshan Wignarajah highlighted, more and more opportunity is being unlocked by innovative financial structures and we look forward to contributing to that development going forwards! There are huge challenges ahead to ensure the $4tn annual investment gap is closed to meet the SDGs and to ensure we have a chance to stay below the 1.5 degree temperature increase as set out in the Paris agreement, however, the level of collaboration and intent, across all actors to drive positive change and achieve this is inspiring. Equally inspiring were the informative presentations from the fantastic speakers and organisations that were sharing their perspectives and insights.
