Delivering 24/7 carbon free energy demands battery based flexibility solutions. Battery throughput (the number of MWh of flexibility an asset needs to provide each year) is on the rise, driven by both grid needs and increased opportunities for operators. Matt Harper's analysis, featured in Smart Energy International, highlights why energy storage projects will need a battery technology that can cope with repeated, variable longer duration charge and discharge cycles to support increasing renewable penetration in grids around the world. https://lnkd.in/eS397BK8 #energystorage #vanadium #flowbattery #vfb #ldes #getmorebattery #renewableenergy #beyondlithium

Energy security is a key focus point in the UK right now. The Cap & Floor mechanism announced last week is expected to see significant long duration energy storage projects being built for the first time in 40 years. Also announced last week is that a further £24bn is being invested in clean energy projects, including battery storage, in the UK. We are proud that our UK-made vanadium flow batteries carry the Made in Britain - official trademark. Gaining this accreditation is an important step in Invinity’s local manufacturing strategy. Whilst the Company operates globally, the benefits of manufacturing and assembling our products locally in both the UK and North America helps to reduce our emissions, guarantee product quality and support the growth of green jobs in industrial heartlands. https://lnkd.in/esnjAV-m #energystorage #vanadium #flowbatteries #beyondlithium

Invinity welcomes yesterday's announcement from the UK Government's Department for Energy Security and Net Zero about the Cap & Floor scheme to support the rollout of long duration energy storage onto the UK grid. This is a very important step forward in paving the way for LDES technologies like our vanadium flow batteries to make a large and meaningful impact on our national grid and it confirms our optimistic view on future policy support for our products in the UK market. https://lnkd.in/eYF5U9AW #energystorage #beyondlithium #vanadium #flowbattery #ldes

Delighted to have been recognised by Energy Storage Canada with their 2024 Energy Storage Milestone Award for the work the whole Invinity team is doing to deliver safe, durable vanadium flow batteries for energy storage projects! https://lnkd.in/esmkzJpd #beyondlithium #energystorage #vfb
Thrilled to share that Invinity Energy Systems has been awarded Energy Storage Canada's 2024 Storage Milestone Award at #ESCCon2024! I was honoured to be able to accept this award on behalf of the Invinity team. Moreover, I was humbled to share the stage with Six Nations of the Grand River former Chief Mark B. Hill, Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO)'s CEO Lesley Gallinger and Rodan Energy Solutions Inc.'s Danylo Grod. On behalf of the whole team at Invinity, thank you to Justin Rangooni, Michelle Mungall, Kristyn Annis and the rest of the Energy Storage Canada team for recognizing the work we're doing to deliver durable, safe energy storage that goes #beyondlithium! #energystorage #renewableenergy #flowbatteries #vanadium #netzero

"I've been told to come and speak to you". The Solar & Storage Live show last week was filled with battery suppliers, underlining how important battery energy storage is for the transition, but almost every conversation the team had (Jonathan Marren, Matt Harper, Peter Strassheim, Fred Hartshorn, George Giles, Ece Sayın, Simon Biancardi, Joe Worthington, Matthew Walz, Phil Lyons and John Senff) began in this exact same way. So what were the key drivers that brought people to our stand? 1) Being a UK manufacturer. More and more energy storage developers are looking to source from domestic manufacturers where possible. We are delighted to now be recognised by Made in Britain - official for our vanadium flow batteries that we produce in our Motherwell and Bathgate facilities. 2) Planning - solving noise and fire concerns. Like last year, and with lithium battery storage fires still happening around the world, these continue to be key issues that our safe and proven vanadium flow batteries are helping developers to solve in their planning processes. 3) The market is excited for the upcoming Cap & Floor mechanism and battery project developers are looking at much longer duration systems. #solarandstoragelive #energystorage #vfb #ldes

Can the world really stop using coal to generate electricity? Today, the UK waves goodbye to coal-fired electricity generation, one of the first in the world to do so, as Ratcliffe-on-Soar officially shuts down. In the US, coal's share of electricity generation will shrink to an all-time low at 16.1% in 2024 due to lower utilization rates and ongoing capacity retirements, according to US Energy Information Administration. In Australia, the rise of renewable generation has meant that coal's share in electricity generation has fallen below 50% (averaged over a whole week) for the first time. The key driver of this is the rapid deployment and better integration of solar and wind generation that is increasingly supported by battery storage, turning intermittent generation into firm, baseload power that is clean and on demand. Our batteries in the UK, North America and Australia are already supporting this change - https://lnkd.in/gN2ABP4 - and as the world deploys more utility-scale energy storage, such as vanadium flow batteries, the transition to cleaner electric grids is looking ever more achievable.

What’s driving the search for energy storage beyond lithium? And why is interest in vanadium flow batteries so high even as the upfront cost of commoditised lithium-ion systems have fallen? Our team (Matt Harper, Colin W. Boone, Jan Petrenko, Bruce Herzer, Graeme Thomson, PEng, MBA, Andy Klassen, Kristina A. Peterson) considered these questions during a very busy week at RE+ Events 2024 in Anaheim. The main themes we heard? Fire safety and longer discharge durations. Like last year at RE+ and at many other conferences we exhibit at, these topics are typically the first points raised across our conversations with developers, utilities, IPPs, EPCs, regulators and financers. Battery safety and the emerging need for 6 hours or more storage durations kept coming up - and lithium-ion is not going to cut it. This was perhaps put into sharper context given the recent lithium battery fire in early September at the 7 year old Escondido battery system and the Otay Mesa fire prior to that. Around the world, fire concerns are leading to intense scrutiny of BESS project safety requirements. One question we heard regularly was: "What is the best application for your battery?". With unlimited cycle counts and a 25 year lifetime, there are a lot of duty cycles and applications a vanadium flow battery can fulfill from wholesale trading and energy arbitrage to delivering power to microgrids throughout the evening and overnight. The flexibility of a vanadium flow battery to provide a range of market services for operators is becoming increasingly valuable as the market is changing and customers are looking for assets that can provide them with safer, multi-cycling and longer duration batteries. #REplus24 #energystorage #vfb
