Last month, Itad had the honour of hosting a session at PeaceCon2024, an annual event organised by the Alliance for Peacebuilding to exchange ideas on promoting peace & conflict prevention. Our session, titled “Informing Effective Diplomacy: Measuring Diplomatic Engagement for Effective Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention under the US Global Fragility Act,” focused on an emerging and critical area: how to measure diplomatic engagement in ways that are both practical and insightful for policymakers and practitioners. 🔍 Exploring DFI/MDB Private Capital Mobilisation 🔍 I’m excited to share a think piece I co-authored with Neil Gregory for British International Investment (BII) on private capital mobilisation. In this piece, we address a critical challenge: the absence of precise terminology around mobilisation, which hampers the ability to measure progress and draw meaningful comparisons. We propose a refined set of definitions and methodologies that build on the foundational work of the MDB Taskforce on Mobilisation and the OECD, ensuring alignment with established practices across the development finance landscape. By creating a unified and consistent vocabulary, we aim to unlock more strategic, targeted, and impactful mobilisation efforts that can drive real progress. While DFIs and MDBs are essential in addressing the SDGs and the Paris Agreement, their investments alone are not enough to meet the scale of global challenges. The potential for even greater impact lies in their capacity to effectively mobilise private capital.
