Last week, we were made aware of an appalling YouTube video about one of our JAAQ Creators, Katie Neeves.
Katie is a pioneering transgender advocate and British Diversity Awards winner who, after publicly transitioning in 2018, makes it her mission to support trans visibility and provide global expertise in diversity and inclusion. 🌈
We are incredibly proud to have her on our JAAQ At Work platform. 👊
Back to ‘Karen’.
Within 48 hours of said video going live, we not only had it removed by YouTube, but had her entire channel taken down.
Now THAT is community action. 👊
A quick scroll of the comments (and the 3,000 supporters she has amassed), shows she isn’t the only Karen out there.
With yesterday being #WorldSuicidePreventionDay, it’s an important reminder that 82% of transgender individuals have considered taking their own lives. 40% have attempted suicide, with suicidality highest among transgender youth.
The fact that these hateful opinions are being spread in a community where we should be striving for acceptance and understanding is shocking.
People like this demonstrate not only why we need to have these conversations, but why we must band together to cut them out when we see them.
Drop a ❤️ below and show Katie some love.
Don’t be a Karen.
