  • 📜 The History of Titan - at 25 years 📜 Last year marked the 25th anniversary since the inception of the James Heal Titan range of universal testing machines. This timeline takes us back 25 years through the full history of the Titan, where we can see just how much has changed in that time. The range has come such a long way since 1999, as we are able to see, and with the launch of our very latest universal testing machine, the Titan 25, we still keep ourselves at the forefront of textiles testing innovation. ▪️ For more information on our Titan 25, visit our website and product pages ▪️ Take a look at our recent retrospective here > https://hubs.la/Q03cwF010 Check out the James Heal Insights & Events page for Titan webinars, On-Demand. #Textiles #Testing #Titan #UniversalTestingMachine #Quality

🔵 Martindale - Pilling and Abrasion Testers 🔵 Our Martindale Pilling and Abrasion testers are available in three models; a 9 station, a 5 station and a 2 station instrument, all featuring our easy-to-use TestWise software. 💭 Did you know?...The Martindale instrument was originally developed with Dr Martindale in the 1940's at the WIRA institute, starting with the 103 model which had 4 stations, and at the time performed tests for textiles used in military clothing and accessories in WWII. Martindale pilling and abrasion testers today are seeing far more technical and sporting fabrics being tested, with these markets growing exponentially, year on year. The Martindale is capable of performing tests to well over 50 different standards, our instruments cover testing on textiles such as everyday garments and socks, to leather items, sportswear and technical textiles, and laminated hard surface textiles. • 📅 NEW webinar session, this week 📅 Back to Basics: Stretch & recovery, the new webinar session in our Titan series of webinars, exploring the stretch and recovery properties of fabrics, and how they are tested. Many fashion garments and textile products today are either made from a knitted fabric, which possess stretch properties because of its construction, or knits, wovens and nonwovens that have elastane incorporated into its composition to offer stretch and recovery properties. These fabrics and garments undergo regular and continuous use, with stretching forming a large part of that use, so to be able to gauge how well these fabrics stretch, and in turn how effectively they recover, is crucial to determining how we can expect these garments and products to perform efficiently for the consumer. In this webinar, we will explore the following areas: 🔵 What is stretch and recovery? 🔵 Standards and test methods (focusing on ISO 20932-1 and ASTM D4964) 🔵 Testing stretch and recovery (using Titan) This Back to Basics webinar is perfect for beginner laboratory technicians as well as people working in other areas such as garment technology, fabric manufacturing and those undertaking various textiles qualifications. Understanding the stretching and recovery properties of textiles products offers a much more rounded understanding of how we determine a products useful lifespan. We are excited to announce the launch of 'Behind the Break: Exploring Fibre Fragmentation'! 🚀 In partnership with The Microfibre Consortium, this landmark study delves into the critical factors driving fibre fragmentation. Together with major fashion brands and manufacturers (adidas, BESTSELLER, C&A, Inditex, Kering, Levi Strauss & Co., Norrøna, On, Paradise Textiles, Positive Materials, Under Armour, Artistic Milliners), and laboratories (Paradise Textiles, Under Armour and IMPACT+ Network from Northumbria University), we aim to explore the mechanisms driving fibre fragmentation in textile manufacturing. 🔎 Why This Matters Fibre fragmentation is a pressing issue with far-reaching environmental and human health implications. Tiny fibre fragments are entering ecosystems, food chains, and even our bodies. While current solutions focus on capturing these fragments before they reach the environment, our initiative shifts the focus upstream — to understand and mitigate the problem at its source. 📘 The Launch of Our Report We’re also thrilled to unveil our latest report, offering a deep dive into fibre fragmentation across the textile and fashion industry. This comprehensive resource addresses: 1️⃣ Definition, Sources and Pathways 2️⃣ Root Causes, Test Methods, and Solutions Portfolio 3️⃣ Biodegradation, Toxicity and Regulatory Landscapes 💡 What’s Next? By questioning assumptions, filling knowledge gaps, and validating current test methods, this project will unlock actionable insights to guide upstream interventions. • Did you know, we have a full weaving shed at our Halifax HQ? Many people might not know, but we have a dedicated Test Materials Centre (TMC) based in Halifax, where we weave our own Multifibre Adjacent Fabric. Up in TMC, we have a warping machine, and several looms which run at a consistent pace, to keep up with the high demand for this popular Testing Material. In the video, we can see the loom being threaded up, which can be a time consuming process as it requires a high level of concentration and skill to get the machine set-up correctly, with the right number of warp threads. When the set-up process is complete, the machines produce Multifibre in a steady and consistent fabric, which is then cut and prepared, and ultimately shipped to testing laboratories around the world. #Textiles #Testing #TestMaterials #Loom #Warp #Weft #Multifibre
