Autumn Budget 2024 Highlights: What's New for the UK Economy? National Insurance Hike for Employers 🔹Businesses face a 1.2% rise in NI contributions, now at 15%, starting April. Small businesses, though, will benefit from a raised employment allowance threshold to £10,500, aiming to ease the burden on SMEs. Capital Gains & Inheritance Tax Changes 🔹Capital gains tax jumps to 18% (basic rate) and 24% (higher rate), effective immediately. 🔹Inheritance tax thresholds are frozen until 2030, with reformed agricultural & business relief caps set for 2026. Boost for Workers and Pensioners 🔹Minimum Wage: Increases to £12.21 per hour (6.7% rise), with a goal for a single adult rate. 🔹State Pension: Rises by 4.1% in 2025, securing pensioners’ financial stability. Cost-of-Living Relief 🔹Fuel Duty Cut Extended: Current levels stay for another year, saving households from higher prices at the pump. 🔹Alcohol Duty: Lowered on draught drinks, while non-draught rises with inflation. Tobacco duty also faces annual hikes. Investment in Schools, Defence, and NHS 🔹£2.3bn for schools, £2.9bn for defence, and a significant NHS budget boost to tackle wait times and infrastructure needs. Economic Outlook 🔹The OBR predicts inflation at 2.5% in 2024, decreasing to 2% by 2029. Growth forecast at 1.1% next year, with a target surplus by 2028.

From sports clubs to church bell ringing groups, these grants are part of JF Hornby & Co’s ongoing commitment to supporting local communities. Since the foundation was launched, more than £360,000 has been awarded in total. 🚨| BUDGET CONCERNS FOR SMES Our Managing Director, Paul Hornby has raised concerns about the potential impact of the upcoming Budget on businesses, particularly SMEs. With inflation, supply chain issues, and an already challenging taxation environment, Paul highlights a growing 'nervousness' among entrepreneurs as Chancellor Rachel Reeves prepares her announcements on 30th October. Paul said: “It seems many businesses are operating in a climate of fear at the moment.
