📕 Journal of Management Studies New Publication Alert! We're excited to present "It Takes a Village: Translating Management Ideas through an Ecology of Roles", by Kasper Elmholdt (Aalborg University), Jeppe Agger Nielsen (Aalborg University), Arild Wæraas (OsloMet – Oslo Metropolitan University), and Renate E. Meyer (WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business); Vienna Copenhagen Business School). This study sheds light on how management ideas adapt and spread in complex organizational settings. Key findings include: 🔑 Multiplicity of Roles: Individuals often adopt multiple, shifting roles to shape the implementation of management ideas within an organization. 🔑 Role Morphing: Roles evolve and adapt over time, responding to both internal and external organizational challenges. 🔑 Reciprocal Authorization: Collaboration across roles is essential, as individuals in different roles often support and legitimize each other’s contributions. By examining a decade-long case study on the "Leadership Pipeline" in Denmark, the article illustrates how management ideas aren’t just applied directly but require active translation and mutual support from various actors within an organization. 📕 New JMS Publication 📕 ✨ Title: "When Duality Fails: Addressing the Liability of Hybridity in a Field Dominated by Non-Profit Values" ✨ Authors: Nicolas Dahan (Seton Hall Stillman School of Business) and BERNARD LECA (ESSEC Business School) In this paper, Dahan and Leca examine how hybrid organizations that balance social and economic goals can respond to legitimacy challenges, especially in fields where non-profit values are dominant. Using Nutriset’s efforts to address severe child malnutrition as a case study, this research reveals strategies to manage the complex “liability of hybridity” faced by social impact enterprises. 💡 Key Takeaways: 1. Liability of Hybridity: When hybrid organizations pursue both social impact and profit, they may face critique from stakeholders who view this duality as contradictory. 2.
