Yesterday, Gavin Osborn, Senior Community and Events Fundraiser for Julian House was invited to the ‘Big Team Challenge’ working with business students at University of Bath. During this session, 50 MBA students use their skills to think big and impress us with brand-new fundraising suggestions to raise £25,000. It was great to meet the students and hear their fresh, innovative ideas! https://lnkd.in/daStxHmp

Meet Jack- he works in one of Julian House's Bath based supportive housing services. In this team he works with clients who have been referred on from the council to receive longer term supportive housing. This stable accommodation is a platform for people with multiple and complex needs to begin recovery and move away from rough sleeping. The aim of Jack’s role is to enable residents to develop sufficient skills to move on successfully to more appropriate or more permanent accommodation. To achieve this, Jack would signpost the clients to various organisations to ensure that they are receiving the needed help to move onto independent living. The movement of clients moving to independent depends on the client’s personal progression as clients are often struggling with addiction, mental health struggles and trauma. These setbacks hold clients back which may be difficult to work with at the time, but Jack says that this is what keeps his team motivated. ' ‘The best part about this role is seeing clients succeed. That is the goal. Seeing clients coming into our service and go into recovery to come out the other end and achieve every goal set out to them and move into their own independence.’ With questions over budget cuts, it can call into question the future of services such as Jacks. If funding isn’t reviewed, Julian House’s support services in the South West will close. Without the central government grants to enable local commissioning, vital outreach and supported accommodation will be lost, leaving many vulnerable people with nowhere to go. https://lnkd.in/gEVFtUMV

Whether it's because of environmentalism, a way of cutting costs or wanting to buy unique finds - the shift in attitude around second hand shopping has dramatically changed the perception of charity shops. Mixing compassion with sustainable fashion, charity shops have always been at the forefront of ecofriendly buying. As a way to celebrate or #Sustainablefashionweek2024 we looked at the impact of the rising popularity of second-hand shopping on Julian House’s shops.

We’re thrilled that Blue Light Card is now welcoming the homelessness workforce into its community. This newly announced partnership is acknowledging the essential service our staff provide every day by going above and beyond to prevent homelessness and ensure that everyone has a safe place to call home. The announcement is the result of a new partnership between Blue Light Card and Homewards, a five-year programme created by Prince William and The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales which aims to demonstrate that it’s possible to end homelessness as well as to change perceptions around the issue. Julian House employees are now eligible for the Blue Light Card which means they are able to save money and improve their own wellbeing, from discounts on everyday essentials. We’re grateful to Homeless Link and Blue Light Card for making this possible.

On Sunday 22nd September, Julian House hosted its 23rd annual Circuit of Bath charity walk. Torrential rain didn’t dampen the spirits of 500 walkers who took on the challenging yet rewarding route. Despite this weather, so many local organisations took part and the relentless downpour added an extra level of achievement to those who completed the walk to raise vital funds for Julian House. If you are impressed by the efforts of our brave, yet soaked walkers, have a look at the businesses that got involved: Julian House: Circuit of Bath Walk 2024 (enthuse.com)
