Legal Services

Providing Asylum and Immigration Legal advice to refused Asylum Seekers and Refugees across the Teesside area.

About us

Justice First was set up in 2006 in response to a lack of specialist legal advice and support for asylum seekers, refugees and other members of the community in the Tees Valley area. The core purpose of Justice First remains to respond to the needs of people in the Tees Valley who are seeking asylum in the UK but have had their initial application rejected. People in this position may have a very good case for asylum, but with nowhere else to turn, they often face destitution with no means of financial support. This also includes supporting those seeking sanctuary with applications for protection-based settlement (indefinite leave to remain), family reunion applications and extensions of existing leave. We are a specialist service in the North East that works closely with, and refers people to other supportive organisations as appropriate. We offer specialist legal advice, practical and emotional support, community activities, volunteer befrienders, and deliver refugee awareness training, presentations, and talks. Please come and see us if you need advice on your fresh asylum claim, refugee settlement application, family reunion application, or extension of discretionary leave. This includes advice and support with fee waiver applications, applying to have a no recourse to public funds restriction lifted, applications for child citizenship, and other immigration related enquiries.

Happy Tuesday, everyone! 🧡 We hope you all enjoyed the bank holiday weekend! Last week at Justice First was a busy one! We tackled a big office de-clutter, hiring a skip, clearing out the space & loading bags up for charity shops. It was all hands on deck. A clutter-free office means clutter-free minds! 🙌 We also had a great reflective practice session with Mandy, where the team had the opportunity to pause, reflect, and recharge. 📢 We’ve got some exciting events coming up, and we'd love to see you there! Tickets are still available for both: Quiz Night – September 21st. To book, contact Justice First directly. Singing for Justice – Fundraising concert on October 4th. Grab your tickets here: https://lnkd.in/e9tnR3KD

📢 Training session with healthcare professionals from with South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust's Indigo Team! 📢 Today, Caseworkers Solafa and Emma delivered a three-hour training session for the Indigo Team at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This specialised team provides tailored care and personalised plans for vulnerable or at-risk pregnant individuals. During the training, we discussed the intricacies of the asylum system, exploring its stages and potential outcomes. We also looked at asylum support, and addressed cultural differences and challenges encountered within the asylum process. The training fostered interactive discussions, encouraging the team to brainstorm ways to enhance their support for people seeking asylum under their care. Thank you to the Indigo Team for inviting Justice First to deliver this training! 🙌❤️ For inquiries or to request training from Justice First, please reach out to us at info@justicefirst.org.uk. #Training #BuildingBridgesNotWalls #JusticeFirst
