  • Lee Whatman is in Manchester today to deliver the last of the Smartr/Concerthub face-to-face sessions, and it’s a biggie. Twenty delegates are expected. by Lee’s calculations (counting isn’t his strong point, mind). This will be his 25th session. Due to the blended learning approach, which is a mixture of face-to-face, remote, and online learning. Like many in the team this isn’t Lee’s first system rollout, but he and the others have gained invaluable insights from their customers (the advisers and admin team) and will ensure this informs any large projects that may be on the horizon. To quote that very well-known thespian Vinnie Jones, “it’s been emotional.” Rodney Sloan, Danny Eustace, Greg Smith Sian Musial Craig Liles Cert CII (MP) Tom Bell CeMap CertRBCB Scarlett McKenzie Donna-Marie Dawes Lorna I.

  • ‘The Trouble is, you think you have time’ Buddha Today is World Kindness Day. Presumably that kindness is supposed be to be shown to others; although arguably it might have a more profound effect if it was directed at self. But that is a different topic than the one I address today. (Something to think about?) The government are currently debating the ‘End of Life’ law. Legislation which will make it legal for a terminally ill person over 18 to be given assistance to end their life as long certain criteria are met.   Here is my question for you to think about… Is it kinder to allow someone with a terminal illness to die in a way they are comfortable with than to live in agony for weeks, maybe months and die what could be a slow and painful death, on the premise of conserving the sanctity of human life? Which brings me to Insurance Providers. Under most life policies, suicide is not paid out within the first 12 or 24 months of the policy, and if someone is diagnosed with a terminal illness, with a life expectancy of 12 months or less, the policy pays out anyway. How will this be affected if the End of Life law comes to fruition? At the moment, as I understand it, the ABI anticipates no change to this should the bill become law. However, we have seen parameters change in insurance since Covid, limits on maximum amounts, added restrictions for certain medical conditions, premium hikes etc. Whilst mortality rates will not be affected in the same way as Covid if assisted dying comes in, I would urge Insurers to show a little, no, a lot, of kindness towards their clients who may be facing this. Perhaps they could stun us all and actually expedite payments for terminally ill patients? The trouble is, we think we have time, and that is simply not the case for someone who is terminally ill. It is not the case for their loved ones. And while some politicians are arguing against the bill, reasoning that better (and better funded) palliative care would be an alternative solution, I wonder if it is the kinder option? Your views on this topic are valid, whatever they are. And your reasoning has merit, you are entitled to it. I just hope insurers take the kindest route if this becomes law. Please, whatever you do, consult a professional when it comes to taking out life insurance. As someone who has had to claim on it and encountered resistance on the critical illness part, I can assure you, you need to get this right. Oh, and be kind. Not just today.

  • In a sector where trust is paramount, a startling 21% of UK homeowners are misled into life insurance policies solely due to mortgage requirements. The following article by Lee Whatman delves into the need for transparency and integrity in the advisory process, highlighting how a commitment to genuine client understanding can transform scepticism into confidence. • Navigating the Challenges of L&D in a New CRM System Rollout As the L&D team, led by Rodney Sloan, heads off to various motorway service stations on their way to locations all around the UK, we're rolling out a new CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system at Just Mortgages, and it's quite the adventure! It comes with its own set of challenges, but our Learning and Development department is up for it. We're here to make sure both employed and self-employed advisers, along with admin support and management, transition smoothly. It's an exciting time for growth and innovation, but we know that technology isn't everyone's cup of tea. Luckily, Greg Smith, Danny Eustace, Tom Bell, Scarlett McKenzie, Sian Musial, Donna-Marie Dawes, Craig Liles and Lee Whatman have been around the block a few times (meant as a compliment), and they've got a plan! Not everyone is thrilled about IT and tech advancements. For many, especially those who have built their careers on personal interaction, "tech" can feel like more of a hindrance than a help. Introducing a new CRM system can seem quite daunting, which is why empathy and understanding are key. We know not everyone is tech-savvy, and acknowledging this is the first step in easing any resistance and anxiety about the transition. those of you familiar with the change curve will recognise where this fits. A big challenge for any L&D team is catering to the different learning styles out there. Just Mortgages is home to a diverse workforce, and a one-size-fits-all approach just won't cut it. Some people thrive in face-to-face settings, engaging directly with trainers and peers. Others enjoy the flexibility of remote learning, which lets them learn at their own pace. To tackle this, we're rolling out a blended learning approach. This includes a mix of in-person training, remote workshops, and a range of online learning tools like videos and step-by-step guides. These resources let employees revisit materials as needed, boosting their understanding and confidence. This is just a small insight into the thought process involved in delivering the kind of project we’ve discussed. It's never just a case of showing up at the venue and winging it.
