The first PaLaDIn General Assembly has now concluded! We would like to thank all beneficiaries for their very active participation over the past two days. This has been a fantastic opportunity to meet and discuss our next steps. We would like to say a special thank you to our External Advisory Board and Ethics Board respectively for their participation and feedback. We now look forward to continuing our collaboration with all beneficiaries to meet our vision of developing and implementing an innovative data collection platform to accelerate the development of effective treatments and patient care, enhance healthcare decision-making and improve patient outcomes. We would like to celebrate that we have just published a paper in Journal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle disease (IF 9.4) describing the efficacy of a new MRI sequence call sodium MRI to detect early damage in skeletal muscle of individuals after an exercise. This tool has shown promising results in healthy controls and patients with #dysferlinopathy and could be useful to identify those presymptomatic patients that are actually developing preclinical muscle damage and could require early treatment. It could also be useful to monitor response to therapies aiming to bring back the expression of dysferlin to the membrane, as gene therapy. This is a collaborative paper between the MRI centre and the JWMDRC funded by the Jain Foundation Inc through the COS study. https://lnkd.in/eny6gh9V

We're proud to be a part of LifeArc's Translational Challenge. Here at the LifeArc Centre for Acceleration of Rare Disease Trials we stand ready to make a positive change in rare disease Colleagues at University of Birmingham, Queen's University Belfast and Newcastle University are collaborating to overcome the inherent issues in rare disease trials to promote a more accessible and equitable platform for all to take part. Follow this page for further updates and opportunities to get involved with the centre.
Rare disease research faces unique challenges including lack of investment, small patient populations, fragmented research and challenging routes to market. People living with rare diseases can experience lengthy time to diagnosis and a severe lack of treatment options. We believe things can be different. To help build on the growing rare disease ecosystem in the UK, and to provide a blueprint for translational research in the field, LifeArc has supported four Translational Centres for Rare Disease. The Centres will work together to help redefine rare disease research in the UK and get new tests and treatments to people with rare diseases, faster.
