🔥 The last stop of the 2024 Arch tour was Burlington, Vermont! 🧊 Show 1 (out of 2) took place on the main stage at @The Flynn - Performing Arts. A beautiful setting, an exciting new set of challenges, a fantastic audience and Secret Singers, and overall a gorgeous night. ❤️ We loved Arch framed in a theatre. The sense of congregation, of voices rising in the cavernous heights, of togetherness and witness – it really all came together, and left us inspired to take Arch to more and new stages. Big thank you to Jay Wahl, @In Situ, and the team at The Flynn for making it possible. And of course, thank you so much to everyone who has been following the journey online! 🙏 We've been a little absent from socials in this last whirlwind of activity. But do stay tuned for photos of Show 2/2 in Burlington, the last Arch of 2024 (the location was absolutely breathtaking!).

    • Indoors on a stage, Seth and Nao build an arch of concrete blocks and ice. To one side, four performers stand facing them, watching and singing. There is no scenery on stage, just the bare and industrial brick walls of the theatre. Lights are pointed at the arch, filling the space with shadows.
    • A wider shot of the theatre. The stage is surrounded by two large, rich, and ornamental art deco panels, one on either side, and a tall cavernous ceiling. The fully built, freestanding arch is on stage, light reflecting on the ice.
    • The remains of the arch on stage. Blocks of ice and concrete lie broken on the ground, as the fire underneath it swells. Three people silhouetted against the light stand watching and talking to each other.

We're headed to the last leg of the Arch 2024 premiere tour. While the team assembles, here are some pictures from Aarhus Light Festival in Denmark, where we performed four beautiful nights of Arch. Like most of Kaleider's work, Arch can be hard to fit into one medium. Framing it within a light art context was a fascinating opportunity, and – we think – an incredible success. 🧊 A combination of natural and artificial light intertwine to create the visual world of Arch. The performance starts at dusk, so the sunset marks the beginning of the work. Throughout, the lighting – designed by Lighting Designer & Performer Nao Nagai – moves slowly through different poetic moments, reflecting the pace of the song and labour. Ultimately, as the arch stands, the light of the fire reflects on the ice, rendering the melting visible; and, of course, eventually brings about its collapse. 🔥 🙏 Thank you once again to everyone who came to witness and be part of Arch at Aarhus. And a special thank you to ILO, International Light Festivals Organisation , LUX Helsinki, and Finnish Light Art Society FLASH for creating opportunities and meetings that led to this presentation. • Outdoors at night in a public city square. A crowd of people stand and sit around an arch made of concrete and ice blocks. A fire burns underneath it, melting the ice.
    • Two performers are building arch while four more sing, facing them. Nao lifts a heavy, slippery ice block, while Seth bends his knees, bracing and reaching out to help her position it. Verity, Ellian, Phil and Aminita stand on the opposite side of the arch, watching them and singing.
    • All of the blocks of the arch are in place. Nao sprays the structure with carbon dioxide from a fire extinguisher, preparing to remove the supporting former underneath it. Audiences crane their necks to look and film with their phones as the gas rises around the arch.
    • Two audience members watch the performance, embracing and leaning against each other in the growing darkness.

Arch opens TONIGHT at Aarhus Festuge ! 👉 The performance begins 20:30 and ends 22:30 (approximately). 🔥🧊 In Arch, you are invited to watch as two performers attempt to build an arch made of concrete and ice. At times gentle and meditative, at others gripping and tense, together we will bear witness to the arch standing – and falling. A vigil of human voices will give their breath to the endeavor, singing a beautiful, original composition continuously for 2 hours – although, of course, it is impossible to say exactly how long it will last. 💫 We can't wait for you to join us in this emotional, surprising, and breathtaking journey! ☔🌙 Remember to dress for the weather and we encourage you to make yourself comfortable – there will be plenty of space to sit or stand. #Kaleider #Arch

    • Outdoors at night in an open city square, Kaleider's performance installation Arch begins. Two performers are setting up a wooden former in the shape of an arch. Behind them, rows and rows of audience sit and stand, watching.
    • A freestanding arch made two thirds of concrete and one third of ice stands in the square. A fire burns beneath it, melting the ice, as dozens of people wrapped in blankets look on.

A few photos from Arch at Freedom Festival Arts Trust in Hull. 🔥🧊 An incredible night in a city that is super special to us. Thank you for coming out! More to come soon – for now, we are getting ready to premiere Arch in Denmark tonight at Aarhus Festuge ! The performance starts at 8:30 pm and lasts about 2 hours – but of course, it's impossible to know exactly. Our deepest thanks to Freedom Festival and IN SITU for making this work possible, and to the Secret Singers and audiences of Hull who witnessed Arch. #Kaleider #Arch

    • Outdoors in a square in Hull, a performer is building an arch made of concrete and ice blocks. They are surrounded by watching audiences and two singers, facing the build.
    • A wide shot of the square. Hundreds of people are sitting on benches or standing all around the arch, leaning on facing and watching intently. The street lights glint in the dark sky, lighting up trees surrounding the space.
    • The arch standing, smoke rising around it. A fire is burning in an oil drum directly underneath the point where concrete and ice blocks meet. In the background, people sit watching the ice melt.
    • As the arch continues to stand and melt, four singers stand watching and singing to it. A church rises in the square behind them, gently lit from the inside.

The Arch tour is back on, and this was the Belgian premiere at Theater op de Markt in Hasselt. 🔥 In Hasselt, we had the opportunity to try something a little different, and very special. 🎶 Musician Sarah Moody on the cello joined Musical Director Verity Standen and Singer Ellian Showering for 2 incredible performances. And, of course, our wonderful local Secret Singers. 😍 Thank you so much to everyone who was part of this fantastic experience! 🙏 Arch really is different every time, and continues to gift us beautiful surprises and opportunities to experiment and play. It is tough work, in every way – but also an enormous privilege, every time. This week we're hitting the road again and headed to Freedom Festival in Hull, UK, followed by Aarhus Festuge in Denmark. 🧊 Time to pack up. 💥 #Kaleider #Arch

    • It's dusk in a grassy outdoor space. On the right, two people build an arch made of concrete and ice, while two singers and a cellist play music and watch them on the left. In the background, dozens of people sit watching them in the growing darkness.
    • Sarah, a musician, sits on a pile of four concrete blocks. She is gazing intently at something outside the frame and playing the cello, which casts a long shadow on the grass.
    • Verity, singer and musical director, has her eyes closed and holds a hand to her chest, singing. Next to her, eight local volunteers join her in chorus, singing through the performance.
    • It's dark. A spotlight shines towards Seth and Nao, who are lifting a heavy concrete block together, setting in place near the top of the arch. The cold, melting ice glistens in the light.

This was a fabulous summer gig: earlier this month, Let's Twist was at Regent's Roots Festival! 🌈 A gorgeous day of creativity and community in London curated by Old Diorama and Fitzrovia Youth In Action. Here are a couple of our favourite shots. We do love watching people twist, play, and transform the sculptures into new landscapes. Like in all of our work, audiences are what bring Let's Twist to life. 🙏💥 Thanks for coming by. More about Let's Twist on our website: https://lnkd.in/eVfQhYJy Photos by Alice Horsley. #Kaleider #Installation #PlayableArt

    • Outdoors in the day, two people are playing with Kaleider's Let's Twist. Let's Twist is a group of geometric sculptures made out of interconnected triangular prisms, between 1 and 2 metres long. A facilitator and child are twisting one of five sculptures in the area, building a rectangular wall.
    • The facilitator and a different child play with a sculpture twisted into the shape of a giant C, about a metre tall. The child leaps through the C shape while the facilitator lifts the upper end of the sculpture.
