Is Office-Based Work the Key to Workplace Happiness? A recent report by office consultancy experts, Making Moves, has sparked some interesting discussions here at Kameo Recruitment. With over 2,000 UK workers surveyed, it turns out that the majority—80.77%—are happier working from the office at least part of the week. Gen Z employees, in particular, report even greater contentment, with only 7.95% unhappy about their time in the office. Some top reasons for heading into the office include: • Socialising with colleagues (41.52%) • Getting out of the house (39%) • Better collaboration and communication (35.69%) • Enhanced productivity in the office (30.85%) With the shorter days of winter, the report even highlights the mental and physical boost that comes with morning daylight exposure on the commute—a healthy lift that’s hard to replicate when working from home. However, the report also reveals a challenge many face: the “Sunday Scaries,” with over two-fifths of office workers feeling anxious for the week ahead. Sally Evans, MD of Making Moves, suggests employers can help by fostering a culture where work-life balance is genuinely valued, encouraging team members to “switch off” and recharge over the weekend. As we consider the balance between remote and office-based work, it’s clear there are significant benefits to each.
