Really great programme of events at the THRIVE Hull Conference 2024 today. It’s given us at Kardia plenty to think about. A very heartfelt talk from Rachel Wright, a fascinating talk from Trina Smallwood and Kelly Thomas called Flipping the Lid. A great interview with Alex Beresford , what a great bloke he is. That was followed by a session on supporting bereavement with children and young people with Rebecca Brambles and Jill Dolman from Dove House Hospice. Very emotional that one, almost had me a few times and then finally lived experiences in an ethnic minority community which was a real celebration of the great work the Peel Project organise. Eloquently delivered by Jamal Choudhury . Absolutely great day 🙌

In the last decade, I've come to realise that the most important aspect of my software development experience isn't the latest technology, methodology or codebase, but rather the people I work with. In particular, I've noticed that as roles become more senior, such as architects, tech leads, and principals, the importance of interpersonal and soft skills becomes even more critical. Unfortunately, I've also observed that these qualities are often lacking in senior positions. When technical expertise is the primary focus, important soft skills like communication, empathy, and teamwork can be overlooked or undervalued. This can lead to challenges in collaboration, decision-making, and team motivation, ultimately affecting the success of the entire project. However, I've also seen that when leaders prioritise soft skills alongside technical expertise, the results can be transformative. Teams become more cohesive, innovative, and productive, and individuals feel valued and supported. As someone who values collaboration and personal growth, I believe that fostering strong soft skills in every role is essential for creating a positive and successful work environment. Whether you're a software developer, architect, or any role in between, remember that investing in your soft skills can have a profound impact on your effectiveness and fulfilment in your work.

This week we had the pleasure of training (just some of) the dream team at 🚀VISR Dynamics and hearing about the #Metaverse technology they are busy working on! 💥They took onboard the learnings and reflections from our popular “No More Drama” Workshop in order to reduce stress, acknowledge and accept ourselves and work more assertively in the team! Afterall, Mental Health isn’t just a one day event, it’s a daily commitment! 🌍 🌟If you’re a tech company and want more information about our range of workshops and training, reach out to Hayley Johnson or Stewart Scarr! 🌟 #TherapyThursday (but for everyone, all week long) #TeamworkMakesTheDreamWork (and hopefully not the nightmare) #OfficeLifeBeLike (cue the eye roll emoji) #AdultingIsHard (especially with coworkers) #CoffeeAndCopingMechanisms #TechExpo ##TechFail #ILoveMyGadgets #CantLiveWithoutMyPhone #TooManyTabsOpen #NetflixAndChill (but actually coding)

#WorldHealthDay2024! It’s finally here!! We've all been there. That feeling of drowning under deadlines, expectations, and the endless to-do list. You tell yourself "it's just a stressful time," but deep down, you know it's more than that. Your job is eating away at you, leaving you drained, anxious, and maybe even a little numb. But here's the truth: You deserve better. You deserve a work life that doesn't constantly compromise your mental well-being. This isn't about "self-care" with a face mask and a bubble bath. This is about taking real, meaningful action to protect your mental health in the workplace. What does that look like? It's different for everyone. 🪢Maybe it's finally setting those boundaries you've been putting off. 🗣️Maybe it's having an honest conversation with your boss about your workload. 🫀🧠Maybe it's prioritizing that therapy appointment you keep rescheduling. ✋🏻Maybe it's simply saying "no" more often. This week, we challenge you to stop just surviving and start thriving. Take one step, no matter how small, towards a healthier, more balanced work life. Your mind (and your future self) will thank you. For more information about how Kardia Consultancy can help implement those changes individually or on a team scale, get in touch and we’ll send our Brand Spanking New Brochure over! #mentalhealth #worklifebalance #boundaries #wellbeing #takecareofyourself #itstartswithyou
