We provide mental health and wellbeing support to young people in schools
About us
Khulisa is an award-winning charity delivering mental health and wellbeing support to disadvantaged young people (11-25). Through our programmes, we work to improve the confidence, resilience and coping skills of children excluded from school and young people in prisons, helping them to fulfil their true potential. Khulisa – ‘to nurture’ in Zulu – represents our South African heritage and our core belief that everyone, no matter their background, has the capacity to learn and grow in a safe, nurturing environment. We believe that schools, prisons, communities and government need a much more joined-up approach to help people escape the cycle of social exclusion and crime, which is why we are Britain’s only charity offering wellbeing programmes, training and research services at all key stages of the criminal justice system, giving us an unrivalled breadth of expertise of what works to reduce crime. With this, we are pushing for policy changes, so that we better support our schools, prisons and communities to reduce social exclusion and crime, and create a safer, more inclusive society.

Big things are happening at Khulisa next week! 😮 Young people’s voices and experiences are central to everything we do. As part of our aim to put young people’s voices at the heart of our programmes and communications, we are excited to announce that we will be hosting our first ever Youth Voice days on Wednesday 30th October and Friday 1st November. The day will be an opportunity for graduates from our programme and our Young Interviewers to meet us and get involved with our work through sharing their experiences of youth wellbeing and the issues that are important to them. Want to find out more about what we get up to on the day? Keep up to date with our socials! #youthinvolvement #youthvoice #youngpeople #smallcharity

How to put the 'Fun' into 'fundraising' courtesy of the fabulous team Charles Russell Speechlys team. Thank you so much to each and every employee who got involved! Looking forward to meeting some of the team at our skills-based volunteer afternoon on Thursday!
Partner, Head of the Construction Engineering & Projects Group at international law firm Charles Russell Speechlys. Social Mobility Partner.
Lots of lunchtime fun to be had today in our own version of the BBC hit show "Would I lie to you?" in support of Charles Russell Speechlys' charitable "foundation fortnight", with both revealing truths and some slick lies going down...... Thanks to my team colleagues in Tom Smith and Caroline Greenwell, and respect for our opponents Aileen Johnson, Sarah Wigington and James Souter. From dating pop stars to working in "interesting" sectors before the law, it all came out today....To say nothing of our very own Rob Brydon-esq chair, the sparkly David Collins. We are proud of CRS for its commitments through its Foundation to a more just world by supporting a stronger, fairer society for all. In practical terms, that means meaningful time and money support to six great charities which: 1. Promote sound administration of justice 2. Improve educational opportunities for the disadvantaged 3. Promote human rights – including through better access to justice and legal services 4. Promote equality, diversity and social inclusion 5. Care for the environment and greater sustainability 6. Create access to equal opportunities in the workplace Emmaus UK, Khulisa, Home-Start UK, SafeLives, Buglife and Z2K - Fighting Poverty #foundationweek #charlesrussellspeechlys

Khulisa has just launched a young interviewers panel of 20 young people, providing support and training to them and bringing young people’s voices and opinions into decision making processes. And we’re not keeping them to ourselves! If your #charity would like to learn from the process or invite our young people to join your recruitment panels, drop us a message or connect with our Head of Programmes and Participation, Porsha Robinson #YouthVoice #YouthLeaders #YoungMindsMatter #YoungInfluencers #YoungInterviewers
I can't believe it’s only been three weeks since we launched our Young Interviewers initiative as part of Khulisa's youth voice strategy. We’ve already successfully recruited 20 incredible young people across London, Manchester, and Wales, and today we held our first online session with our CEO Jodie Wickers Our Young Interviewers and Young Influencers are truly inspiring. Hearing them speak so passionately about the importance of youth voice, mental health, and driving change fills me with so much motivation and hope for the future. These young leaders are ready to shape the world we all deserve! I’m excited for what’s ahead, including their participation in interview panels this week. To any charities interested in having young people on their interview panels—please reach out! porsha@khulisa.co.uk Let’s create more opportunities for these brilliant young voices to be heard. Cheers to this new chapter! 🌟 #YouthVoice #YoungLeaders #MentalHealth #YouthEmpowerment #Khulisa #FutureChangeMakers #YoungInterviewers #Younginfluencers

About last night … #youthparticipation #youngmindsmatter #youthvoice
Had the priviledge of meeting Khulisas young ambassadors this evening!!! I've been looking forward to it all week😂💃 (okay all month, who am I kidding 🤣) They asked such thoughtful questions about Khulisas strategy and whether we feel there is enough young people in decision making spaces. The answer was, we really don't. So much more needs to be done to make sure young people are in the rooms they should be in, sharing their experiences, their way, and having it heard and acted upon. I am so excited to develop this more together at Khulisa💓 A huge thankyou to Porsha Robinson and Tiah Stewart who have done a brilliant job leading our youth participation 🌟

What a great experience presenting with Tiah Stewart! We shared Khulisa's top tips for driving research, evaluation and youth participation forward: 1) Prioritise qualitative research 🔝 - this provides valuable insights into the experiences and perspectives of young people, especially for our creative interventions that may be difficult to measure quantitatively. 2) Ensure research rigour 💪 - strong research and data collection are essential for demonstrating the impact of non-profit work. This can help secure funding, contribute to policy change, and ensure that programmes are effective and evidence-based. 3) Involve young people authentically 👂🏽📢- engaging young people as research participants and collaborators can lead to more relevant and meaningful findings. This approach can also empower and build trust. Thanks for the platform, MRS&more. We enjoyed the opportunity to share and learn from other young practitioners. #mrx #socialimpact #youthparticipation #youthvoice #presentation
