  • For #WorldRadiographyDay, we’re celebrating our brilliant radiographers at King’s, whose expertise and dedication play a vital role in diagnosing and treating our patients. Thank you for the essential work you do every day. We’re also thrilled to congratulate Adriana Rey, Dental Radiographer, and Kishar Griffith, Diagnostic Radiographer, on winning The Society and College of Radiographers (SCoR) poster competition! This year, the SoR invited members to design a poster for World Radiography Day around the theme “Radiographers: Seeing the Unseen,” encouraging creative concepts that capture the unique perspective radiographers bring to healthcare. Adriana, creator of The Power of the Unseen poster, said: “I wanted to try and highlight the work we do in dentistry as radiography often focuses on MRIs or CT scans – maxillofacial scans are also a hugely important part of our discipline, so I decided to come up with a poster design in my own time to raise awareness of what we do. “I hadn’t done anything like this before and wasn’t expecting to win, so it came as a nice surprise when I won. The win is not just for me, it is for the whole team here in the Dental Institute, and I’m proud to have my poster shared across the country. I hope it inspires my colleagues to do something similar in the future.” Kishar, creator of The Eyes of Healthcare Radiographers poster, shared: “I have always been into art, and when I saw the call for entries it took me back to my childhood when I would enter poster competitions with my dad. I was gobsmacked to win, I never thought that out of everyone who entered from across the country I would be selected." Congratulations Adriana and Kishar. #TeamKings

  • We are delighted to host King’s Live 2024, an annual international conference showcasing the latest innovations in endoscopy.   Running from 6 to 8 November, King’s Live is held at King’s College Hospital, bringing together King's specialists and experts from around the world to share the latest innovations in endoscopy.   We are also honoured to welcome Professor Prof Shin-ei Kudo, who is widely recognised as the father of magnification endoscopy, to receive a lifetime achievement award for his contribution to the field of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.   Mr Amyn Haji, course convenor and Clinical Director of Surgery at King’s, said: “This international conference is a unique opportunity for experts to demonstrate emerging technology in complex procedures utilising endoscopic techniques. There is a wealth of innovation and research in this area, and by sharing these advanced procedures to a live professional audience, we are able to further develop these minimally invasive techniques, helping our patients make a faster recovery.”   The conference comes in the same month that we celebrated the ‘topping out’ ceremony of our new multi-million pound endoscopy unit at the Princess Royal University Hospital, which will start treating patients in 2025.   Read more here: https://bit.ly/48FZ77N   Thank you to all our attendees, speakers, and participants.   #TeamKings #Endoscopy #HealthcareInnovation

  • Exciting news: The New Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Unit at Princess Royal University Hospital is now open!    We’re proud to share that our newly established SDEC unit officially opened its doors on 25 October.    Located on the 1st floor, this cutting-edge facility includes a waiting and triage area, ten treatment chairs, six assessment trolleys, and a specialised procedure room for essential interventions like lumbar punctures and ascitic drain insertions.   This unit is set to play a pivotal role in reducing Emergency Department pressures, enhancing patient care, and optimising our hospital’s patient flow, all while providing our dedicated staff with improved resources and space.   Sarah Morton, Lead Nurse for General Medicine, praised the efforts of colleagues who made the facility possible:   “This is a real team effort, and the new unit is going to make a big difference to the care we provide for patients, and the facilities we provide staff.   “It will also improve the experience of patients needing treatment. There is more space, and the way the unit is designed is better for patients, particularly in terms of improving privacy and dignity.”   The unit has been treating patients since the start of October but was officially opened on Friday by Professor Clive Kay, Trust Chief Executive, and Angela Helleur, Site Chief Executive for PRUH and South Sites, who joined staff for a tour of the facility.   Angela said:   “I am incredibly grateful to the many colleagues, clinical and non-clinical, who have made this facility possible. It is going to make a positive difference to the PRUH, and support our efforts to improve care, and the flow of patients through our hospital.” #TeamKings #EmergencyDepartment #NHS #PatientCare

  • We are thrilled to share an update on the progress of our new endoscopy unit at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH). Following our recent topping out ceremony, we are one step closer to providing enhanced endoscopy services for Bromley residents, and people in south east London.   This state-of-the-art £20 million facility, scheduled for completion in 2025, will allow us to care for an additional 4,500 patients each year. With a two-storey design, the unit will feature consultation and treatment rooms, recovery spaces, and a sterile services unit, ensuring we have the resources needed for effective diagnosis and care.   During the ceremony, we welcomed Gareth Bacon, MP for Orpington, who joined our dedicated staff and project partners, including Kier Construction and WT (UK & Europe), for a tour of the site and witnessed the progress firsthand.   During the event, MP Gareth, said, "It was good to be shown around the site of the new endoscopy unit at the PRUH. This is going to be a vital facility for Orpington, it will help detect and treat cancers earlier and care for thousands of patients.” Professor Clive Kay, our Trust Chief Executive said: “We are delighted that the project to build a new, state of the art endoscopy unit for Bromley residents and people in south-east London is making good progress, and we are on track to open it next year. “The extra space the unit provides will help our teams see and treat more patients, and aid with the vital early detection and treatment of various conditions, including cancers.”   Stay tuned for more updates.   🔗 Read more on our website: https://bit.ly/3UrqRXE #TeamKings #EndoscopyUnit #HealthcareInnovation #KierConstruction #WorkingBrilliantlyTogether

  • Celebrating #BlackHistoryMonth at Orpington Theatres   Each month, the theatre team at Orpington Hospital celebrate cultural events to acknowledge and appreciate the diversity of #TeamKings. This month, the focus was on Africa's rich and diverse cultures in honour of Black History Month.   The event was a vibrant celebration, where staff members shared personal stories, traditions, and experiences, showcasing the unique aspects of their heritage.   Hubert Sanguyo, Matron at Orpington Theatre, who organised the event, shared insights about the significance of this event: "As we shared laughter, food, and stories. We deepened our understanding of one another and fostered a sense of belonging within our department. Together, we celebrated Africa and the rich tapestry of experiences each staff member brings to our team.   "Colleagues brought in traditional foods that filled the room with enticing aromas. Each dish, from jollof rice to other delicacies, narrated a story of home and community. As we savoured these flavours, animated discussions unfolded about the role of food in African cultures, often intertwined with celebrations, family gatherings, and rituals.   "Staff also shared their journeys of settling in the UK as nurses, recounting the hurdles they overcame and the support they received. Their stories were inspiring and underscored the importance of cultural diversity in our workplace. Hearing how they maintained connections to their roots while embracing their roles in the UK’s healthcare system was heartwarming. The celebration was not just a tribute to African culture but a reminder of the strength and unity that comes from diversity."   #TeamKings #BlackHistoryMonth #BHM2024
