💥 The distinguished Turing Lectures are back this autumn, and we're incredibly honoured to partner with The Alan Turing Institute to host them. This year’s lecture series titled “In AI we trust…?” will explore the complex relationship between artificial intelligence and the future of democracy. The lectures are welcome to everyone — from students to industry professionals. It will be an unparalleled opportunity to learn and connect with others in the Knowledge Quarter who are interested in AI. Reflecting on the significance of this partnership, our CEO, Jodie Eastwood, said: "We're thrilled to facilitate an accessible and public dialogue on the vital topic of AI literacy and are proud to support these lectures, which will unite a curious and diverse audience from our vibrant community together with The Alan Turing Institute, a longstanding and valued member of the Knowledge Quarter." 👉 Read the full news story and secure your spot for all three lectures in the series here: https://lnkd.in/e_T9XSQf

📣 The Alan Turing Institute is delighted to unveil this year's highly anticipated Turing Lectures! This year we’ve partnered with the Knowledge Quarter to explore how AI is changing our world and what it means for you. This series explores the complex relationship between artificial intelligence and society, examining its impact on our democratic processes, decision-making systems and, crucially, trust. As AI becomes increasingly integrated into our lives, we face key questions about its role in shaping our future. From its influence on political landscapes to its potential for perpetuating societal biases, AI presents both opportunities and challenges. This lecture series aims to equip attendees with a comprehensive understanding of these issues, exploring how we can harness AI's potential responsibly. By exploring AI's impact on government, decision-making processes and our broader society, these talks will provide valuable insights for citizens, policymakers and technologists alike. The series will ultimately help guide us towards a future where AI serves as a tool for progress, without compromising the core human elements that define our societies and interpersonal relationships. 🎫 To find out more about this year’s lectures and book your tickets visit: https://bit.ly/3MlJt7l #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #AiEthics #DataScience #Research #STEM #TechIndustry #Technology #TuringLectures

🔑 How can universities and businesses align their efforts to create a seamless flow of knowledge and innovation? This was a question our CEO, Jodie Eastwood, discussed during a panel at Times Higher Education Events’ World Academic Summit 2024 earlier this month. Here are some of our thoughts: ▶ Collaborative partnerships between universities & businesses are vital. A great example we’ve seen in the KQ is the Public Collaboration Lab at Central Saint Martins, University of The Arts London (CSM) that enables a world-class design university to work with their local government to drive social change through design-led projects. Have you visited the Story Garden behind The British Library? It’s a fantastic example of such a project, demonstrating the creative design of urban spaces that would otherwise remain unused, awaiting development. Through the T-Factor project, we partnered with CSM to support projects like this. 👉 Learn more about 'T-Factor' here: https://lnkd.in/ei_dWnwx ▶ Furthermore, local innovation hubs, like Impact Hub London, can serve as spaces where people and ideas can physically come together to systematically turn concepts into applied innovations. ▶ Building talent pipelines is also important. By co-designing curricula with industry feedback, universities can train students with specific in-demand skills, ensuring they are equipped to meet future job market needs. 💬 Have you seen any inspiring examples of successful knowledge exchange between universities, businesses, or government? Faye Bowser from Siemens, Daniel Diermeier from Vanderbilt University, and David Willetts from Resolution Foundation, thank you so much for joining us on the panel. And a special thanks to Lou Cordwell OBE for your facilitation. #InnovationDistricts #THEwas #KnowledgeQuarterLondon

Another brilliant show at the Lethaby Gallery in King's Cross, featuring the work of students from Central Saint Martins, University of The Arts London. Launched as part of the London Design Festival, the Observatory invites us to look at the world with fresh eyes. Exhibits explore our past, present and possible futures through creativity, collaboration and innovation. Lots of ideas on display from hair made with pineapple fibre to the future of (insect) food. I particularly enjoyed the videos and imagery from students exploring hidden lives with family and community stories. Thank you to Knowledge Quarter and Kate Keara Pelen for an enjoyable morning.
