Poverty and mental health are inextricably linked. In 2022/23, an estimated 4.3 million children in the UK were living in poverty, a sharp increase from 3.6 million in 2010/11. Children in the least well-off 20% of households are 4x more likely to experience serious mental health difficulties by age 11 compared to those from the wealthiest 20%. The latest report from the Centre for Mental Health explores the hidden link between poverty and children's mental health and highlights the urgent need for decisive government action to eradicate child poverty - and offers suggestions on what that action should look like. Today we release our ESG Impact Report, which details our unwavering commitment to being a force for good across our industry, communities, and our planet. For our users, we have incorporated inclusive AI, and invested $20 million in nonprofit work that seeks to advance youth mental health. And, recognizing that change comes from within, we have made huge strides internally to strengthen inclusion and diversity, employee wellbeing, pay equity, and reduce our carbon emissions. These commitments align with our mission at Pinterest, and I’m so proud to be sharing them with you today. Take a look at what we’ve accomplished together: https://lnkd.in/gUU7y5_Q

Place2Be welcomes the Government's proposed new laws to reform education and improve children and young people's wellbeing across the country. Among these reforms are plans to recruit more teachers, introduce breakfast clubs in primary schools, and reduce school uniform costs. As well as ensuring these laws come into effect, Place2Be is aware that wider reforms are also needed to make schools a place where young people's mental health is at the centre. This needs the collaboration of school leaders, the third sector, health, children’s services and Ofsted – backed by the Government. We also need the urgent expansion of school-based mental health services. We want to build a system where - come September - every child can walk through their school gates feeling positive, accepted and like they belong. Only then can we break down the barriers to opportunity. Read more about the proposed laws and Place2Be's response:
