"What's in it for me?" Something I thought I would say far more when starting my own business... But strangely it's something I consider less now than during my time within larger organisations. It's a shame but inevitable that the 'baggage' of larger businesses (e.g. meetings, fee targets and managing miscommunication) leaves very little time to behave in much other than a transactional manner. Whilst acutely aware that work is 'life and death' (not quite) when there isn't the safety net of a salary, I am more able and willing to help for the sake of it these days. I was recently asked where the lending market is with regards to LTV... The quick answer was 65% because I knew the asset and the client. But the long answer is 'it depends' and it gets really long after that.
