A good summary here of how and why to consider the entire warehouse ecosystem, not just the robot, when designing (or upgrading towards) the 'warehouse of the future'. The topic that I would add to this is 'infrastructure', specifically digital and power infrastructures. Digital. Today's warehouses are largely ill equipped to meet the demands of automation, particularly mobile automation. The Wall Street Journal dug into this looming challenge last September (here: https://lnkd.in/gdf6yg6h). Power. As warehouses become more automated, they will also become more power hungry and at a time when warehouse operators and their customers need to reduce power consumption to reduce costs and emissions. It is likely that this will lead to a proliferation of DC microgrids underpinning warehouses and factories to reduce inefficiencies, increase resilience and harness renewable energy.
