About us

Laureus is a global sports-based charity that works to improve the lives of young people. The first Patron of Laureus was Nelson Mandela. At the inaugural Laureus World Sports Awards in 2000, President Mandela said: “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. Sport can awaken hope where there was previously only despair.” This has become the philosophy of Laureus and the driving force behind its work. Laureus combines Laureus Sport for Good, the Laureus World Sports Academy and Ambassadors Programme and the Laureus World Sports Awards to form a unique organisation that uses the inspirational power of sport as a force for good.

A great collaboration together with The Park Lane Hong Kong, a Pullman Hotel, for the 'Mind in Motion' Photo Exhibition. The exhibition highlights the powerful connection between art, sports, and mental health, through the lens of photographer Brian Ching, showcasing the stories of 10 local athletes and celebrating the distinctive athletic spirit in the vibrant district of Causeway Bay. 'Mind in Motion' supports Laureus Sport for Good's initiatives on sports for development and mental health wellbeing in Hong Kong, China and will run until the end of the year. #SportForGood

“Football has this incredible power to connect people. It really breaks barriers, creating a space for everyone despite age, nationality, culture and gender. This is what happened with Gumball and the participants.” ISF Cambodia’s Borann Sok shared what it meant to bring together young people from local ISF projects with the Gumball 3000 Group Rally. For the past decade, the Gumball 3000 Foundation has closely partnered with Laureus Sport for Good to help improve the lives of young people all over the world through sport. During the 25th Anniversary rally, ISF participants in Siem Reap enjoyed games designed to help teach life lessons and core values, before taking part in a friendly match alongside rally drivers to showcase their skills. Huge thanks to Maximillion Cooper, Gumball 3000 and the Gumball 3000 Foundation for the continued support. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/etHDrV4s #Gumball3000 | #SportForGood

Laureus, AFD and IOC want to move the dial on gender equality and anti-discrimination in sport for education and sustainable livelihoods programmes across Africa. To this end Laureus Sport for Good, together with our partners Agence Française de Développement and International Olympic Committee – IOC's Olympism365 , are looking to hire a high-quality consultant to help develop a guide that will enable us to mainstream gender and anti-discrimination approaches into the delivery of sport for education, employability, and entrepreneurship. It is critically important that this becomes a guide for practical action and not another lofty strategy or meta-reflection about gender equity and anti-discrimination. Deadline for SHORT proposals and CVs: 23rd September 2024. Please see CV for more information.

“There’s so much we can learn from what is happening here – and so much still to do.” A champion inspiring future champions, as Laureus Ambassador Garbiñe Muguruza paid a special visit to the Po Leung Kuk Lam Man Chan School, to learn more about how sport is helping positively impact youth mental health – using skipping ropes and tennis rackets as some of the tools for change.   The Laureus Model City Hong Kong initiative is a coalition of local organisations including educational institutions and mental health professionals co-ordinating their efforts and developing best practice to benefit programmes across the region. #SportForGood
