We have loved seeing the transformation of Hardman Square over the last few years. This unique city centre place was created by introducing a lush forest-inspired understory and pockets of seating underneath already existing mature trees. Layer.studio has been helping to secure permission to return a historic Anglesey lifeboat to its home. The Thomas Lingham lifeboat was based at Rhosneigr’s lifeboat station until its closure in 1924. The boat eventually fell into disrepair after being used as a private vessel for many years, and it was even lost for while - ending up in France. Celebrating Heritage 🧱 Our design draws inspiration from Manchester’s rich industrial heritage - over 100,000 bricks on-site will be transformed into new materials, reducing environmental impact while keeping the soul of the city alive. By reusing materials and incorporating industrial textures, we’ve created an accessible public realm that celebrates the area’s history while looking to the future. Green Corridor for Community & Biodiversity 🌳 We’re maximising green potential through layered landscaping, integrating rain gardens, green gap paving, and vertical green walls. This approach not only enhances biodiversity but also improves pedestrian experience in a bustling urban environment. Inviting Spaces 🪴 From pocket gardens to vertical structures, our design embraces flexibility and flow. Inspired by the site’s former back-to-back housing, these spaces offer quiet retreats amidst the city buzz. Vertical arches and structures echo the iconic railway arches, tying the development into its urban context.
