Transforming Wind Energy: Bigger Turbines, Stronger Foundations! 🌟 Over the years, wind turbines have been progressively getting larger and more efficient. We are now seeing units of 15 to 20 megawatts in the Far East and large units of around 15 megawatts coming online in the European market in 2025. 💡 To put that into perspective, some of these mega turbines are nearly 300 meters high- almost the same size as The Shard skyscraper in London! 🌱 A single mega unit can power approximately 20,000 European households annually and displace more than 38,000 tonnes of CO2 each year. As turbines get larger, the need for larger foundations to accommodate these structures becomes the next big challenge in the industry. We are currently involved in installing XL monopiles that are just shy of the 10-meter diameter range in Europe. While the industry continues to expand and develop, foundation sizes will grow in line with wind turbine advancements. [INSIGHT] Floating offshore wind is a key part of the energy transition, enabling turbines in deeper waters with stronger winds. 🌊 Traditional mooring systems use individual anchors for each turbine, which can be costly and disruptive. Shared anchors connect multiple mooring lines to a single point, reducing costs and minimising environmental impact.
