Lecta has achieved DIN CERTCO industrial compostability certification for its EraCup Natural paperboard, an innovative product for food service applications. Why is this certification important? The certification ensures that compostability claims are scientifically validated and that items are accepted in industrial composting facilities, unlike "biodegradable" products that may not fully degrade. In addition to the recyclability certifications already obtained, this new certification guarantees that the product contributes to the circular economy without leaving any harmful residue. 🚀 4/4 🚀 Last week, Lecta's largest distributor, Polyedra Spa in Italy, part of the Lecta Distribution Group, successfully transitioned to completely new IT systems. This included the implementation of a new ERP system, logistics platform, e-commerce website, and CRM. This major project, a result of months of work from cross-functional teams and our partners, was executed with minimal disruption to the business. As Gian Luca Ghio, Managing Director of Polyedra, shared: “We are confident that our customers will benefit from a more innovative service, tailored to their needs.” This marks the final phase of an ambitious rollout plan across the Lecta Distribution network in Spain, France, Italy, and Portugal. Lecta’s mill located in Sant Joan les Fonts (Girona, Spain) is heir to a long tradition of paper production starting in the 18th century thanks to the power and the quality of the Fluvià river water while crossing volcanic rock formations. The progressive enlargement and modernization of the original premises left behind an industrial heritage and workers’ houses linked to the factories that, together with the Sant Joan les Fonts town hall, we have fought to protect and enhance. The most recent project that has been carried out is producing paper, stationery and paper figures handmade by people belonging to INTEGRA Associació to be sold in specialized stores. INTEGRA is an NGO that provides work adapted to the capacities of persons with intellectual disabilities. Integra was the catalyst for this specially valuable project, enthusiastically supported by Lecta and other stakeholders. In addition to providing profitable occupation for disabled persons, the old Can Viñolas building has been renovated, and paper production and life has returned to those spaces after decades of inactivity. Can Viñolas also provides continuity with the paper manufacturing museum located into the old Molí Fondo mill that was donated by Torraspapel-Lecta to the town hall some years ago. The inauguration last November was attended by representatives of Integra, Torraspapel (Lecta) and local dignitaries. An open house was held so residents could see the new Can Viñolas firsthand. Replacing single-use plastics with packaging solutions based on fiber-based materials is known as "paperization." But what are the advantages? One of the main benefits is the positive impact on recycling that paper, cardboard, and fiber-based packaging offer in general. Paper recycling systems are highly developed, achieving objective, real recyclability. Additionally, packaging materials based on fiber are biodegradable, which allows them to return to nature more easily even if they are not properly recycled.
