The figures in this report are likely to underrepresent the full scale of this issue. It is vital that there is support available for those experiencing domestic abuse, especially those with additional needs such as mental health. https://lnkd.in/eFjxrUex #DomesticAbuse #RaisingAwareness #Norfolk #Suffolk #EveryonesBusiness

The impact of economic abuse can go on for many years and massively affect a survivor's ability to move on. More needs to be done to hold perpetrators to account and support survivors who are often left to shoulder the burden of the perpetrator's actions. https://lnkd.in/eRpHJbTu

Our Interim CEO, Anna Graves, has nearly been in post for a month and has shared an update on her time at the organisation so far. “It has been a busy few weeks, but I’ve enjoyed meeting the Leeway team, who are all extremely passionate about the important work of the charity and committed to supporting those experiencing domestic abuse. “The demand for our services remains consistently high and our staff continue to work tirelessly to provide the best possible support. We know that there are probably many more people that haven’t reached out for support yet and one of our key objectives is to look at how we can raise awareness of domestic abuse, breaking down some of the barriers that prevent people from coming forward. “Domestic abuse is such a complex issue, which has such a huge impact on so many people. Despite this, it is an issue that is not talked about nearly enough and we must look at how we can work collectively across a range of sectors to raise awareness in our local communities. I hope that Leeway can make new connections to help to drive this forward and strengthen our efforts to tackle domestic abuse.” #DomesticAbuse #Charity #Support #Norfolk #Suffolk #RaisingAwareness

Domestic abuse is a national emergency and we have a collective responsibility to ensure that we are doing all we can to tackle it, including in our workplaces. The excellent article, linked below, highlights why your business should be taking domestic abuse seriously.
Why domestic abuse is a business issue, and what you can do about it. EIDA's CEO Susan Bright writes in HR magazine today: "One in five employees experiences domestic abuse in their lifetime. Work may be the only safe place for many victim-survivors of domestic abuse. By understanding the signs of abuse, creating a supportive environment, and providing effective support, employers can safeguard their employees and potentially save lives. The statutory guidance accompanying the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 makes clear that an employer’s duty of care includes considering the impact of domestic abuse on employees." We know that many employers want to take action, but may not know where to start. EIDA membership is free for all UK employers and gives you the tools, resources, and networks you need to implement an effective domestic abuse response for your organisation.
