𝗟𝗲𝗳𝘁𝗖𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 | Claire Griffiths It's our penultimate story before we launch our 10 year poem, and this time we're hearing from photographer Claire Griffiths. Over the years, Claire has documented so many LeftCoast projects, capturing both our spectacle work with Lightpool and Depart, right down to our neighbourhood commissions, from working with Refugee communities in Claremont to planting and growing The People's Pantry in Hawes Side. Claire has played an instrumental part in LeftCoast's storytelling process. It has been amazing to go on this journey with her. Now it's time for Claire to tell her LeftCoast Story - written with Nathan Parker!

𝗟𝗲𝗳𝘁𝗖𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 | Wash Your Words This week we hear from Jade Livesey as she tells the LeftCoast Story of the community creatives at Wash Your Words: Langdale Library & Laundry Room. Every Wednesday, the group gather to engage with our creative programme, seek advice, and lend an ear to their neighbours. They've created a special space enabling them to go on a journey together, learning new skills from sewing, cooking, growing, baking, pottery, photography, screen printing, and glass painting. Together, with writer Nathan Parker, they have put their experiences into a poem, celebrating all they've achieved at Wash Your Words for LeftCoast's 10th birthday! Take a listen below...

𝗟𝗲𝗳𝘁𝗖𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 | Lizza Lane We're back with another poem written by Nathan Parker, Parker Words, this time in collaboration with artist Lizza Lane. Lizza's LeftCoast Story started when she got involved with the Inside Out Exhibition, in Fleetwood. She worked with our Artist in Residence Gillian Wood on creating beautiful hand-painted signs for the show, as well as exhibiting her headdresses. To name just a handful of projects, Lizza has since volunteered to help paint Morag Myerscough's pavilion with artist Sarah Harris; landed her first LeftCoast commission to make the most stunning headdresses with residents @TheGrange; toured Futurefarmer's Beachship; and joined the National Gallery on their Art Road Trip. Listen to her story below...

𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 - 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗡𝗼𝘄 We're looking for someone to develop a digital platform (possibly an app or WhatsApp and website resource) that maps and connects people to the common land, green spaces, and places to collect food - which currently exist in a patchwork across Blackpool. We want to consider Blackpool as whole, an urban farm of sorts. As we are an arts organisation, we would like this to be well designed and illustrated, and ideally have a creative collaboration as an approach. We believe there are two elements to this brief. 1. A technical role – App/Website/WhatsApp development and content management system 2. A digital creative – Someone who can creatively respond to the application framework and information put on it by the public Deadline to apply: 25th November 2024 Find the full job description and apply over on our website: https://lnkd.in/gNz5wpQC

𝗟𝗲𝗳𝘁𝗖𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 | Dave Carlos To mark LeftCoast’s 10th birthday, we have commissioned poet Nathan Parker, to work with participants, volunteers, photographers, and artists to create a catalogue of poetry that captures the past decade. From the launch of Wash Your Words, to the dance, light and projection mapping masterpiece RUSH, Nathan has co-created a series of work which explores personal anecdotes and stories that have emerged from our time in Blackpool and the Fylde. As we close our birthday year, we'll be releasing a poem every Friday... Today we hear from Dave Carlos, who reflects on the Spareparts Festival and his time as the Operations Director for Fleetwood Festival of Transport (Tram Sunday).

“We need peace and love, To understand that we’re in it together. Because once your heart becomes apart of this place, You’ll always be Revoe forever.” ✨ LeftCoast has one more evening left at Lightpool – and what a fantastic time we’ve had! Combining one of our Supper Clubs at Revoelution with the launch of our community poem and lightwork Growth was such a highlight. We celebrated the switch on with poet Nathan Parker, who treated crowds to a beautiful performance of the piece, which he’d co-written with the Revoe Community as part of the installation – created by the Revoe Community, Illustrator Laura-Kate Chapman, and Digital Animator Eben Clancy. The amazing Electric Pink Voices got everyone dancing as they kicked off proceedings with a catalogue of pop classics from the Pet Shop Boy’s It’s a Sin, to Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance with Somebody 🎶 Local poet Rob Mason performed two poems inspired by the area, the community, and the people who live there. And we were fortunate enough to hear cherished memories from Penny, the former landlady of the George Hotel. 💚 Thank you to Magda and Multi Culti Food for catering the evening, with a gorgeous spread featuring Tabbouleh Salad, Spanish Tortillas, and THE Ultimate Potato Salad, which got rave reviews. To artist Angelica Vanasse for producing another stunning Supper Club. And of course, the Revoe Community, Grenfell-Baines Institute of Architecture's Lee Ivett, and architectural designers Ecaterina Stefanescu and Sam Eadington for building Revoe’s Public Square where the celebrations took place 🎊 Head over to the Grundy Art Gallery this evening to see our second installation: The Illuminated Ice Cream Cart, and don’t miss out on trying The Grange's Taste of Happiness ice cream! We’ll be there from 6pm to 10pm. Photos: Lucy Hunter

☀️🖼️ The National Gallery visited Blackpool this summer with its Art Road Trip. During their stay, we explored the botanical works of Dutch artist Rachel Ruysch with several neighbourhoods in Blackpool, and worked with local artists Lizza Lane, Joseph Doubtfire, and Nerissa Cargill Thompson to bring Ruysch's paintings to life. Over a fortnight of workshops, conversations, coffee, and sunshine, we engaged with more than 1,000 people living in Blackpool - making floral arrangements and faux terrariums to take away with them. Thank you to everyone who joined in the fun, to the project's producer Alex O'Toole, the National Gallery and its team of artist educators, to our dedicated volunteers, the beautiful venues and community partners, our associate photographers, Lucy Plumbley and the Wash Your Words community for the set display, and Flowervision for helping us find interseasonal floral offerings 💐 👀 If you took part in Joseph Doubtfire’s virtual reality workshop, keep your eyes peeled on our socials, as we’ll be releasing the virtual cabinet of curiosities over the next couple of weeks - We can’t wait to reveal your creations! We have some team news... Brian Coope from The Hub at South Shore has stepped down from our Steering Group. He has made a fabulous Community Representative during his time with us, and has been a brilliant LeftCoast advocate. We are sure going to miss his wit and charm. Thank you Brian for all of your invaluable community insight over the years. In his place, Simon Lawton from Revoelution will be joining our Steering Group as the new Community Representative. We're very excited to welcome him onto the team and learn from his wealth of experience in community development.
