Wide belt sanders are another machine where commonly - dust is visibly evident on the floor under the material feed belt. This is a strong indicator of inadequate dust control. I've seen examples where the LEV has passed but your photos show otherwise. You're incriminating yourselves. Proper control isn't just about having local exhaust ventilation (LEV) installed; it's about making sure it's effective! Many wide belt drum sanders have LEV but the dust control is poor. 👉 Don't get caught out. Join my mentorship programme for guidance in understanding wide belt drum sanders: ✅ the sources of dust generation. ✅The best way to control with LEV. ✅How we appraise during an LEV TExT to conclude if the LEV is effective. ✅What sort of extraction rates we need and where. Let's improve your knowledge, understanding and woodworking safety standards together! The mentorship is subscription based. To find out more and unlock this post, follow: https://lnkd.in/e22wNFNJ

Did you know that the stack is a vital component of your Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) system? It's responsible for safely discharging hazardous air outside your building. Here's why you need to pay attention to your LEV system stacks: ● Health and Safety: A well-designed stack ensures harmful fumes are expelled high above the wind boundary layer, preventing them from re-entering your building and endangering your workforce. ● Compliance: Following industry best practices, such as those outlined in HSG258, is crucial for maintaining a safe and compliant workplace. ● Performance: A poorly designed or maintained stack can reduce your LEV system's efficiency, leading to increased energy costs and potential production downtime. Sample of one of our AI Generated podcasts discussing our Companion guide LEV104, which has been put together for a neurodivergent mentee. LEV104 is a resource which is exclusively available to subscribers of our LEV Mentorship. It is a guide which delves into the Quantitative and Qualitative assessments which are typically undertaken during a CoSHH Reg 9 Thorough Examination and Test (TExT). Every LEV Practitioner needs to be able to recognise this because there are still plenty of these Asbestos Explosion Relief panels out there. Some info: Klingerite, an ASBESTOS explosion relief panel distinguishable by it's red colouring (sometimes has the Klingerite name written over it). Richard Klinger, an Austrian engineer developed compressed asbestos material for gaskets in 1899. Klingerite was a popular choice of gasket, which was used on dust filter unit explosion panels. Klingerite contained a whopping 70-90% white asbestos (chrysotile). If an explosion were to happen, its going to shred the panel resulting in an environmental catastrophe, with the release of Asbestos Fibres. Asbestos is a known carcinogen, and when disturbed, its fibres can become airborne. Also the pressure within the filter unit and the particulate movement, could wear and result in internal damage of the Klingerite. This could cause exposures to asbestos with the filter changes and emptying the dust collection bin!! Inhalation of asbestos fibres can cause serious health issues, including lung diseases such as asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma. Anyone in the vicinity, including workers and nearby residents, could be at risk of exposure to these harmful fibres. Asbestos fibres released into the air can settle on surfaces, contaminating the surrounding area. This contamination could pose ongoing risks if not properly cleaned up and managed. If you spot this Klingerite – it has to be removed. Due to the risks to health following inhalation exposure to asbestos the importation of blue and brown asbestos has been banned in the UK since 1985. This ban was extended to include white asbestos in 1999. #lev #localexhaustventilation #dsear #atex #asbestos #healthandsafety

I've noticed several bandsaws where the photos in your TExT Reports are quite incriminating. Because dust is visibly accumulating on the saw face and surrounding floor. This is a strong indicator of inadequate dust control but the system passed the examination?? Proper control isn't just about having local exhaust ventilation (LEV) installed; it's about making sure it's effective! Many bandsaws have LEV but the dust control is rubbish....sometimes non existent through lack of guarding. 👉 Join my mentorship programme for guidance in understanding Bandsaws: ✅ the sources of dust generation. ✅The best way to control with LEV. ✅How we appraise during an LEV TExT to conclude if the LEV is effective.
