We recently developed our own LED handrail system for a project that wasn’t suited to anything that was readily available. This tailormade creation provides a continuous light that passes through each bracket without any black spots. Lights are powered by hidden wireways within the bracketry, and the flush placement ensures a seamless aesthetic. Impressive work from our team. Chris Kember, our Head of Health & Safety, joined us a few weeks ago to improve our culture in this area even further and cement our group's reputation as a leading force in stair installations. Here's some insight into the measures Chris is planning to implement in the coming months, in his own words: "By and large, the attitude of Leyton staff towards health and safety is fantastic – but my main aim is to provide team members with the knowledge and confidence to make faster decisions on site if they think something isn’t quite right or could pose a risk, without worrying about causing delays or stepping on other people’s toes. "The types of lifts we undertake are often complex, so the more control measures that are in place, the better. Being an Appointed Person for lifting operations, it’s my job to make sure these manoeuvres are safely and successfully executed – but everyone has their part to play in making sure the right procedures are being followed. "There will be a heavy emphasis on training (and refreshing previous training), and I am planning to develop our in-house systems. Generally, I want to both improve and maintain standards across the board." Though he's only been with us for a short time, Chris is pleased to see that Leyton Group is already excelling in many aspects: "In the past few weeks, our operative team at our flagship site won the safety award and were treated to a free breakfast from the main contractor as a result. This has been a seamless project for Leyton Group, both visually and in terms of delivery. The solid steel plate balustrades and soffit were welded on site, then filled and painted by our team to create a sheer aesthetic. The interesting geometry on these pieces adds a futuristic look to the client’s premises. We added glass balustrades with stainless steel handrails, complemented by LED lights for added functionality and a contemporary finish. At Leyton Group, we’re famed for our thorough approach to health and safety, and we have extremely high standards in this area.       As you can imagine, installing this 15-tonne feature staircase was no mean feat, but, drawing upon all our specialist training and extensive practical experience, we completed this high-risk activity at the site of Project Emerald near Tottenham Court Road.   We were subsequently commended by the client for our efforts – so much so that we topped the leaderboard of their own health and safety scoring system that month! We're not afraid to take on unusual projects here at Leyton Group. We recently used our engineering expertise to produce a series of bespoke planters for a rooftop space in Central London. A meticulous approach to the design and installation process ensured we delivered a head-turning concept that was surprisingly easy to install onsite, even without the use of a crane lift. #engineering #fabrication #cityscape #roofscape #landscaping #planters

It’s always exciting to see our structures come to life in situ.   After a lengthy design phase, we recently installed the first staircase at our largest project to date.   The fully bolted staircase concept was 3D modelled and then pre-assembled in our Basildon factory, meaning no welding was required once it reached the client’s premises.   All our hard work and meticulous attention to detail in the early stages of the project paid off. We’re over the moon to see that Capital Group’s London HQ is a finalist in the Project of the Year – Workplace 70k+ category at the Mix Awards 2024.   As part of this large-scale project, Leyton Group brought together the unique concepts for 7 flights of statement staircases at Capital Group’s offices. These structures incorporated several different balustrade designs and included various specialist finishes. The detailing was completed by our in-house painting team.   Congratulations to Overbury, tp bennett, and all other project partners involved in the works. Congratulations to Lauren Speariett, who has completed her very first solo project management job several weeks ahead of schedule! Under Lauren’s watchful eye, two single flight staircases were completed without any issues, way ahead of programme. Lauren oversaw every aspect of the build, from forming the openings in the slab through to the stair installation with glass balustrade and oak cladding. As an advocate of gender equality in our space and a member of Women Into Construction, Lauren has been training alongside Rob and the rest of the management team for some time, so we’re delighted that she has had the chance to develop her skills in this area. All stakeholders have been delighted with her approach and it’s clear she has a smart instinct for management.
