Advocating for Human Rights in Cambodia! Astrid Thors, LI vice president & chairperson of the Human Rights Committee, delivered an oral statement at the 57th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. She spoke up for the Cambodian opposition, activists, and those unjustly detained, urging for their freedom. In partnership with FNF Human Rights Hub, Thors also met with Prof. Vitit Muntarbhorn, the Special Rapporteur on Cambodia, to discuss the latest developments affecting Cambodian expats and their families back home. Later, Thors took the stage at a side event organized by FNF’s Human Rights Hub and Khmer Movement for Democracy, where key discussions were held on the implementation of UPR recommendations with a focus on democracy, civil rights, environmental protection, and the role of women and youth in shaping a brighter future for Cambodia. To keep global warming below 1.5ºC, we must halve emissions, phase out fossil fuels, and significantly invest in clean energy infrastructure now. Although we've seen positive developments, such as record investments in renewables and ambitious climate plans in various countries, these efforts are still insufficient. We need bolder and faster climate action, embedded across all levels of government and among all stakeholders, ensuring equitable access to climate finance for all countries. Crucially, this transition must prioritise people, guaranteeing a just transition that benefits all communities. At the Climate Week NYC Climate Group, LI’s Climate Justice Committee explores innovative solutions and advocates for urgent climate action at every level. Join us in driving the change needed for a sustainable, equitable, and just future.
